Conduct Unbecoming
Season: 9
First Shown: 29 April 1983

Mr. Humphries and his mother are fighting over her new boyfriend, and Mr. Humphries' strange behavior at work is raising concern among the staff. Meanwhile, money is disappearing from the till on the Men's Counter. To try and find out who the thief is, Mr. Rumbold plants two marked five-pound notes in the till; later, when they're gone, he accuses a drunken Mr. Humphries of theft. Indeed, one of the notes is found in Mr. Humphries' pocket, but he claims he's innocent. Of course, Mr. Rumbold pronounces Mr. Humphries guilty regardless. The staff has a trial to examine all the evidence, pitting Captain Peacock as the prosecutor versus Mrs. Slocombe, who decided to take up Mr. Humphries' defense. As the kangaroo court...er, trial continues, everyone's ethics are called into question concerning arrival times. Is Mr. Humphries innocent? Does Mr. Rumbold really care?
