It's time for the Mr. Granger's 37-year anniversary celebration dinner! While the staff agonizes over dress codes, music and the menu, Mr. Granger wonders if he'll be getting "the Clock", Grace Brothers' way of telling staff that it's retirement time. Mr. Rumbold announces that Mr. Grace is sick and won't be attending the dinner, giving Mr. Granger hope that he won't be "clocked". That night, the staff arrives dressed up, bearing gifts and ready to party. Mr. Rumbold confides to Captain Peacock that Mr. Granger will indeed be retire; Mrs. Slocombe makes headway with the canned champagne and gets blasted. And there's even dancing, though it seems that the only matched couple are Mr. Humphries and a mannequin. After dinner (btw, the chicken won), Mr. Rumbold is delivering a speech to Mr. Granger when Mr. Grace comes in! Mr. Grace tells Mr. Rumbold to continue, but when Mr. Rumbold holds out the clock to Mr. Grace, Mr. Grace thinks it's for himself, getting Mr. Granger and Mr. Rumbold off the hook!
