Back when it was made I had never heard of AYBS,I found it by accident in the late 90s.

The Rag Trade has absolutely NOTHING to do with AYBS?! It was about a company that made clothes. I LOVE the ITV version but not the BBC version.

Could not agree more with this statement!

Oh, I forgot to say that regarding Beanes - I thought German Week was a terrible episode to use as a pilot! A later episode sure but not the pilot! I think if they had shown a more average store day with customers etc and introduced the characters better it would have been picked up. I liked the cast - except Lucas. The music made it very American.

I can understand why they may have used something like German Week. An American remake is going to have people against it from the get go. They needed to really make an impression and go with a zany episode to rope people in. And to their credit, it wasn't a terrible plot. The nephew Beane (his actual name escapes me) has a job on thin ice and is trying to save sales. He overshoots and ends up in a mess. That's classic AYBS?

I'm just being selfish probably! I like shows for the characters more than anything.

I can understand that. Although I dropped The 70's Show when they included things from the 80's early on.
