That seemed pretty good for an American remake. I didn't necessarily expect all those names to be the same. I think I could have liked this a lot although Mr. Humphries would have taken a while to get used to. The rest of it looked okay

I don't know that I could have gotten used to that Mr. Humphries, but it was a different time when the episode was filmed, and that was probably the kind of portrayal many expected.

Exactly, Red. The English Mr Humphries was actually an interesting departure from the norm.

Casting John Hillerman as Peacock was a fantastic choice. Charlotte Rae as Mrs Slocombe was decent, and Tom Poston as Mr Beane was funny but a bit too "acting old man"-y. The rest was terrible, especially Mr Humphries!

Charlotte Rae was perfect for the Slocombe "American counterpart"

My friend Greg and I watched the full episode of Beane's of Boston awhile back and I loved it. From the cheesy opening credits to the end (which takes an unexpected turn into another much loved AYBS episode than you think it will).

Anyway, as a tribute to Garry Marshall, who was Executive Producer on the pilot, Greg just posted an article. This also contains screencaps from the full episode.

If you’d like to take a look and see what the rest of the episode was about check it out: http://www.from-the-archive.co.uk/20...en-series.html

Major Hutchinson!

A very big Thank You MH for that link. I never knew that 9 minutes was to evolve into German Week. Put a bittersweet smile on my face.

Thanks for posting that link. I got sucked in and read some of the other articles too. It's nice to see informed opinions of British tv.

How cool. And it's good to know that KFC is (was) considered a healthier alternative to pizza and burgers.
