The thing about the Lucas guy for me was that he was too much of a sleaze and over-confident. The real Mr Lucas was just an ordinary guy who'd try his luck with women and hope for the best. He didn't think he was the sexiest man alive.

And the "ordinary guy" aspect was what made his rapport with Mr Humphries so delightful. I couldn''t imagine that the two Beane's versions would have had the same chemistry, both too wrapped up in themselves and OTT.

BTW, there's a recent article suggesting that they're thinking of remaking some old Britcoms, including AYBS? I don't know how to post a link, but maybe someone who's in the AYBS? Facebook group can find it and post it here? It was recent, no need to scroll too far.

Funny you should mention that; there's already a thread on that article: http://www.minki.net/aybsforum/showthread.php?t=8219

I think this had a lot of potential if they had just kept going, but maybe do a little recasting. The guy playing Humphries was just utter shite, and the nephew running the department...no. And the stairs right as you come out of the f*cking lift?! Sure, there's only about half of what they had at Grace Brothers, but still.

Can you imagine, if this had been picked up and ran for a while, if they brought over the original English cast as guest stars? Like, Beane and Grace are cousins and decide to have their staff members train each other? Or if the English cast just walked around like a bunch of tourists and remarked about how poorly the Americans run their shops?

And when Mr. Humphries met his American counterpart...let the catty fireworks begin.

Certainly a good well known cast for a failed pilot.....did not like Tom Poston or the nephew or whatever. The others looked interesting. Shame the whole thing isn't posted.

Keep John Hillerman and Charlotte Rae, Sack the rest.

With out the British cast system of type of wit, and having the right actors play the part it falls flat. When the American actor playing Grainger, he said "Not much is happening in my Trousers", everyone stops and stares for the Joke. That ruined his line to me. It's suppose to be an innuendo. Not something everyone gets unless you have a dirty mind.

Should have been something like "Not a lot going on in MY pants for ages" and where were the Boston Accents?
