I was following updates on the BBC World News twitter feed and I noticed all the NO majorities coming in... figured this would be the end result.

How interesting it would have been if they voted to be independent. I wonder if they would have made it and how rough it might have been at first.

That was my first thought. How was this going to effect them economically. I understand why they would want to become their own country but I also realize the long uphill battle they'd have to fight just to get there. To me it doesn't matter though, either with the UK or without the UK I still love you Motherland !!!

Been following this on CNN Student News and Channel One News... Scotland has oil and natural gas production. They would have been OK economically. The tourism industry is there, too. The main issues were what currency would they have used? Print their own (which would have taken time and if they were out of the UK, then no British Pounds) would they have been allowed to use British Pounds legally until the changeover? Or would they have gone to the Euro, which also would have taken time to get going. And National Defense was a huge issue. I know Morrissey was behind the Scottish Independence, but he'd like to see everyone jump ship on the Monarchy!

I somewhat agree but people might not consider all the cost. An economy based on oil and tourism is more susceptible to recessions. Healthcare, taxes, infrastructure, would all be affected. Elderly pensions are easy targets for politicians. When prices are high for oil the good times role, but sooner or later the bottom will fall out.

They would have to reapply for the European membership. And wouldn't be a NATO partner anymore.

I'm glad it didn't happen because it if did we would have to get our passports out for a trip 1 1/2 hours down the road! And my Dads side of the family are Scottish and it would feel a bit. Altogether I'm glad nothing has changed
