Smile Hello to everyone here

Hello from Germany
Just found this forum more or less by accident.
AYBS was never shown in Germany - so my b/f and I came to it very late.
We both love Brit comedy and so we try to watch all famous series as we go along.
In February I stayed in London for a few days and looked for a little gift for my b/f. So I pick up the DVD with the first season.
I must confess after the first episode we were not sure if we gonna like it or not. But after the second one we got sticked to it.
We both like Mr. Humphries and Mrs. Slocombe the most and tried to see more with John Inman and Mollie Sugden. We seen so far "Odd man out", "Come back..", "Take a letter..", "That's my boy".
Anyway we're still on the hunt for Brit comedy. But not every series hit my humour centre They show some stuff here on German Comedy Central. Their all dubbed. Some are very good dubbed (like Little Britain) and some are so-so.
Don't hesitate to asked me anything you wanna know* and/or if I wrote stupid things here - cause my English is also just "so-so" haha
Wish everyone a lovely weekend!
Birgit

Willkommen! Have you ever seen the AYBS? episode "German Week"? If so, what did you think of it? My AYBS? web site has a "German Week" glossary at http://home.hiwaay.net/~emilyj/gerweek.html. (Mein Nebenfach an der Universität war Deutsch.)

Yes! Love that episode! All the wonderful clichés are in it haha
I know German is difficult to learn - so I'm always amused about the sometimes odd use of it *g Like "Einfahrt" and "Ausfahrt" or "Strumpfs" (my favorite word!!) haha
Saw your "German week" glossary! You did a wonderful job and it's a nice site indeed.
Just wonder why you learn German! Cause I'm always puzzled why someone try to learn German. Not easy to learn and you can only use it in parts of Switzerland, Austria and Germany.

I studied German in high school because French wasn't offered. Our teacher was a native of Bavaria who had married a US soldier and moved to the USA. Then, at college, I studied German for 4 years, French for 2 years, and Spanish for 1 year. I had a crush on my first German professor, but he had a breakdown and moved to Houston, Texas. My next German instructor was yet another German native (this time Kaiserslautern) who had married a US Army captain. German is more closely related to English than French or Spanish (especially grammar). I just always had a talent for languages, so that's why I studied so many.

I've only been to Germany once, to Trier, but I loved it. What a beautiful place! I, too, studied German in high school and then at college. I must confess I've forgotten a lot of it by now

Hi and Welcome Balu. I think it's great to be bilingual! Wish I was. I studied French in high school and college but I've forgotten quite a bit because it's been over 30 years ago.

Gruss Gott! Sie werden es hier mogen. (Don't think that's quite correct, but anyway - welcome!)

No it's correct...only the "dots" on the "umlaut" are missing
You can say it this way "Gruess Gott" and "Sie werden es hier moegen"...
"Gruess Gott" is used more in the south of Germany...
Further to the north you also say "Moin"....But "Guten Tag" is fine everywhere in Germany

@Missmac....So many languages! WOW! I'm hopeless with learning a foreign language...Really envy everyone who learn it easily...I had 4 years French at school - I forget everything....I also try to learn Mandarin! I just remember to introduce myself - that's it *g
