From your post, I deduced you thought Mollie's character was his real mother, instead of the other (less likeable for sure) character that raised him.

The difference being one woman gave birth, but the real mother is the one who is there and supportive for all the stages of childhood (first word, step, lost tooth, etc).

Well, yeah. I was speaking in biological terms. I mean, Ida spoke as if she did want to keep Shane, but could not afford to do so. It happens, unfortunately. In my heart and mind I can't judge her for giving up the infant. That's just my humble opinion, anyway.

I am very fortunate to sort of have two mums. Although my step-mum has only known me as an adult, she still treats me as if I were her flesh and blood child. My step-dad was the same way.

I've not watched this in about a week. I think I'll cook some popcorn later and load it up on youtube.

We have two sweet girls who were born in Russia (12 year old Katerina, adopted in 2001 and 5 year old Svetlana, adopted in 2008), so yes I am a little sensitive about the parent role.

On the plus side, I took AYBS episodes behind the Iron curtain for others to enjoy...

Hoo-Ray for you for giving two children a home.
It's also nice that you shared your DVD's.

Bumping because I just discovered that the first 4 series are on YouTube so I decided to start watching. I saw the first couple episodes. This show is so cute and I'm glad to discover another show with Mollie on. Also, the show is available on DVD here in the US at amazon! All five series are around $18! I don't often see this many complete UK shows this cheap. I might have to get this.

I ended up getting that complete series DVD set a while back and I've been trying to watch 2 episodes a week, which is easier for me to do now that the holidays are over. I've been enjoying this show very much. I've been noticing that Robert's (aka Shane's) adjustment to Ida in his life... their relationship starts to get closer by the second series.

I just finished watching the series 2 episode A Brush With The Law, which interestingly enough featured Ida's character as a customer in a department store in an experience gone awry. Pearl Hackney (who played Mrs. Grainger on The Clock) guest starred as the store detective. It was fun seeing Mollie play the kind of character Mrs. Slocombe would have probably been annoyed by.

Watching the series 3 premiere "Where There's a Will" and I noticed Benny Lee guest starring as a solicitor. This is the first time I've seen him on something else besides AYBS.
