Default Hello There!

Hi!
I thought I would say hello, I am from Cheshire in UK and have worked in a retail department store - And can tell you stores just like Grace Brothers still exsist in the North of England - I worked on the homewares floor in a one of these stores for a while in a floorwalker type role (due to the fact I usally worked in the offices and I didn't know how to use the till and there was a staff shortage) Anyway, while I was working there (having seen AYBS years ago and forgetting it) A customer likened the shop infrastructure to AYBS & so that night I watched AYBS on the Tele. Anyway I became imediatly hooked and has since overtaken Keeping up Apperances as my favioute comedy! Anyway I now whenever I visit a town or City I look for a Grace Brothers styled shop and rate it out of 10 in comparison to Grace Brothers. They are usually independent. Here is my list so far:-

Westgate (Co-op) - Harrogate & Stockport 3
Hancock & Wood - Warrington 9 (simular style Merchandise)
Kendal, Milne & Co - Manchester 10 (Has 6 floors and has cental lifts)
Lewis's - Liverpool 9 ( Has lift attendents & sells everything )
Bratts - Northwich 9 (simular style Merchandise)
Hoopers - Harrogate & Wilmslow 9*
JR Taylor - Lytham St. Annes 8*
Stringers - Lytham 7
Rackhams - Altrincham 4
Piers - Wigan 1
Boyes - Scarbourough 1

* = Mrs Slocumbe like charater on counter

Anyway I wondered if any one else does a simular thing/ works for such an establishment and has to grit there teeth to stop laughing?

Welcome, Mr. Someone! How cool to have someone here who has filled floor-walker shoes. Thank you for letting us know that stores such as Grace Brothers do still exist in places.

You're Welcome - There are many more across Britian, but usually get overlooked by the like of John Lewis (different companyfrom Lewis's) & Debenhams - Department store chains tend to be a bit more modernised.

It was a very good experience - but can be a bit boring standing there like a lemon waiting for customers. Eccspecially in Homewares for 9 hours, you end up looking like you want to go too the loo by the end of the day with leg ache. Still it could have been in the carpet department and sitting room departments - which no one seem to visit, hehe...
