Default Scheduled Chat?

Has there ever been a scheduled forum chat?

I'd love the opportunity for us all to get together in one place at one time and have a big ol' chat.

I never seem to cross paths with enough people when I visit the site to start up any sort of PM conversation or even chat with people via the chatbox when I'm on the site.

Would this be a viable idea and if so, would people be interested in doing this?

Setting up a chat room in the forum is a bit dodgy. Minki has it in the works. Lots of members want to have a group chat including me. As for PMing folks would it matter that much if they answered tomorrow? I PM a lot of nice people that aren't on the board at the time .

I think it would be interesting. Instead of setting up a chat room, we could use the ChatBox. If a suitable time could be found, a stick thread could be used to advertize the next upcoming ChatBox Live time. Of course, using the chatbox wouldn't be private -- it would be open to all.

It might not be a bad idea to plan a "We Remember Wendy Richard" Live ChatBox night to remember her by.

To quote Cuthbert Rumbold "I like what I'm hearing". We'd just have to make sure it was advertised properly on the baords so enough folks knew about it

Let me see what I can do. I still have the old one that was giving me grief--perhaps I can get it patched up enough so we can start using it.

The current ChatBox works fine. I don't think we need to set up anything special. Like Wandering Ranger suggested, we just need to advertize a gathering time.

Crank up the CB! (Citizen Band or Chat Box as the case may be!)

I do want to bring the chat room back though, because when it worked it was fantastic So I'll still work on it.

But yes, feel free to crank up the CB any time you want to!

Well, why don't we pick a day this week for it, and then if the chat room is fixed it'll be there--otherwise we have the lovely ChatBox we can have fun in

The one thing to keep in mind is that we will never come up with the one perfect time: we have members from coast to coast in the US, the UK, Europe and Australia. We've got 17 seperate time zones to deal with!

So after we pick a day, I will host two chat events several events but several hours apart, so people can attend either one that best suits their local time...or heck, they can even come to both of them!

I was thinking... (I know, mark the calendar!) ...What about the one-week anniversary of Wendy's Memorial Service? That would be Monday March 16, 2pm GMT. It would be daytime in Europe and "primetime" in the US. I have no recogning for Austrailia times [Sunday night-ish?]

Alternatively, we could make it on a Saturday. Or we could do two chats: one AM and the other the same time but PM to cover the globe!

Saturday would probably get a better audience, to be honest, since most people aren't working/in school that day.

2pm GMT is about 10am EDT, 9 central, 8 mountain and 7 pacific. A lot of US members may be at work or school at that time--a lot of UK/Europe members would be doing the same as well. There's a 4-7 hour time difference between US and UK, so even if you have it a few hours later GMT some people will still be stuck. I know that Australia is 9-12 hours ahead of GMT, so it'd be about 11pm-2am for them.

I think the 2 chats a day 12 hours apart may be better, or possibly 3 chats grouped fairly close together (such as at 2, 7 and 11pm GMT). I wouldn't make it more often than 3 as then you'll have people spread too thin.

And we can use this to help plan it:
