Small town life-What happens in your town?
I love living in a small town close to a small city, there is so much to do.
Tonight, the summer band concerts begin. The band does not rehearse but are all so talented the music is great. Each Wed and Sun the band plays in a park after supper. Tonight's will be Flag day celebration.

This band got into the Guiness Book of world records a few years ago for amassing the largest kazoo band.

Nothing goes on in the town that I live in. The occasional parade, the Summer carnival for the Fire Department and fireworks on the 4th. That's about it. Unless you stay up late and watch the Amish have buggy races late on Saturday night.

The farmer's market is opening today, and a new red light has been installed to serve the soon-to-be-completed Super Wal-Mart. Wow. :-\

MM the red light sounds exciting. But I do like a good farmer's market!

Bear in mind that I'm from NYC, so anything less than 10 million population is to me considered "small town"

I currently live in a tourist trap in the South. The vacation season just started on Memorial Day, and the beaches, oceanfronts and businesses are getting a good business. Last week there was a boating festival. This weekend I think it's a rock concert plus some historical re-enactments.

We're a small town that's growing by leaps and bounds. This is apple, wine and onion country. So there's always a festival of some sort happening. Tons of farm stands and farmer's markets. There are myriad orchards for apple and pumpkin picking. Not to mention pick your own berries and corn. Nearby we have an artists' community and large local theatre with occasionally good shows. The excitement builds as our new library is built to accomodate the community growth spurt. My town is populated mainly by farmers who have lived here for ages, and by young, affluent families looking for "country life". So I stay here as this demographic is ideal for my career as a Personal Chef.

I play in the band that Laurel mentioned...and we are pretty good (LOL). Our community is mainly a farm community, but our local moderate-sized town has a wonderful fine arts heritage. There are plenty of local small-town festivals, too.

Sometimes I wish I lived in a smaller town so there would be events like that to go to. It sounds interesting.

There really is a lot to be said for small town life. It's nice that we can bop on over to St Louis or Springfield for the day and shop till we drop.

That's what I liked about living in Corpus. It wasn't small-town like your small towns are, but it had a small-town feel to it, plus it was surrounded by a whole bunch of small towns with stuff going on. And San Antonio was just at the other end of I-37.

We do, Lucas. We actually have what's called "Christmas around Town". We have it here in our rinky dink town as well as two other neighboring rinky dink towns. All the shops have tons of Christmas items and food for sale. Most of them are hand made things. Alot of people set up booths in some of the stores to sell their crafts. It's really neat and fun. My mom, sister, and I go every year.
