Default Edited DVDs!

Well I've given up buying the British R2 DVDs as they come out - sod that, I'm going to get the R1 boxset with the whole lot.

The main reason is I found out the other day that edited versions of the episodes had been used on the R2 releases. Only five episodes are affected. I believe the versions being used are those David Croft supervised when the series was repeated on the BBC in 1997/8. He wanted to make the episodes more snappy apparently, and remove bits that were less relevant. The main victim of editing is the episode 'German Week', where amongst other things, Grainger's references to 'the Bosch' have been removed. So it's basically censorship - which really annoys me! Other edited episodes used on the DVDs are from series 3 and 4: New Look, No Sale, The Father Christmas Affair and Forward Mr Grainger. Lord knows which bits I am missing from those episodes! (I think about a minute is missing from each.)

So, before I buy the Region 1 boxset, could anyone please confirm the full episodes are included? I've managed to get hold of a list of episode timings as confirmed by the BBC.

Evey hit the nail on the head and you did a wonderful job Evey !!!
The Region 1 are not cencored. I can't believe that the Beeb would allow cencorship. I myself am totally against cencorship in any shape or form. No matter what their reasoning is.

In my video tape, there is a scene shortened in the toy dept. I never saw Annie the airhostess or playgirl Penny till the DVD.

That's right, I have the Region 1 DVDs and they are thankfully not edited.

The BBc has been known to edit shows to a 'commercial' half-hour to allow sales to commercial channels. It's not censorship - just business!

Yup, that's right.

Also, in (I think) Tangled Web, when the lovely J. Inman looks at the camera and says "the next item is a lie" is always missing on brit tv-and that included the advert free BBC1. Pathetic to cut things out I say!

I've just watched series 5 and realised all the edited bits for the broadcast that they've left in, including a new blooper.

When I would watch it on television, the episode "Founders Day" had a few pieces edited out. The part where Mr. Grace says "That'll be Danny LaRue" at the party was edited out which I never understood since it was about 3 seconds of footage.

The same sort of 'business' that wipes tapes and chucks programmes in the bin.

Region one is not "entirely" complete.

We must not forget that at the end of the episode with the Fish Fountain that the last part of the end credits was cut off. I saw the episode on PBS once and it clearly shows the fish both jumping out of the fountain at the end of the credits.

This piece was absent from the Region 1 collection for some odd reason.

Still I'll take having all 10 seasons of 69 episodes plus extras on DVD anyday. There are a lot of old TV series that only have a couple of seasons on DVD. Imagine if they had only released seasons 1 and 2 of AYBS? One that comes to to mind is Whose Line UK, which had 10 seasons but seasons 1 and 2 are the only ones available on DVD. So at least we have the complete collection!

Well, didn't they just begin releasing those lately? I would think it would take time to enahance them and re-release them.

Couldn't agree more. Only having a few seasons would have totally bitten the big one.

Depends what you mean by recently... the Season 1 and 2 set was released March 27, 2007. So it's been 14 months and still waiting for even an announcement of future seasons...
