Default Grace and Favour

I never could get into this show like I did the original.

For one thing, everybody looked so old, it made me sad.

Except for Captain Peacock, he looked more or less the same.

Also, I thought it was too polished.

I prefer the amateurish look of the first series.

Does anybody else feel the way I do?

Yeah, to a point. I didn't like GAF when I first came upon it but it has won a place in my heart. Nothing like AYBS? did but I still like it.

I never can make a direct comparison of the two shows. They're two totally different comedies, IMO. And people age, not much we can do about that. I love GAF because we get to see different sides of the characters while they still maintain the whacky personalities they had on the original series. And they're in a different environment other than a dept. store so more "real life" situations can take place with them. I love GAF sometimes more than AYBS? and sometimes much less. Depends on my mood, I guess.

To me it's like seeing old friends you haven't seen in years. It isn't about the plots or acting or anything else, again to me, it's the fact I get to see them one more time.

well i like the show alright i guess, but i have not seen all the episodes, only a couple so its hard for me to completely gauge my liking of it. i do like the fact that the staff actually get out of the department and get into a little more real life things, which is great..i dunno..i have to see all the episodes to really know one way of the other

Grace and Favour The Retirement Home?

Somehpw our Staff would still be er...Staff. After a goofy Rumbold deciaion someone would ask "Does he suffer from Alzheimer's?" And Captain Peacock would reply,"No he's as sound mentally as ever." 8)

I think I'd find a reunion show, at this stage, to be very depressing. I am thrilled most of the remaining cast has still been working steadily. But I don't think I'd want to see "Miss Brahms" looking so old and weary. And Mollie, I doubt, would have the physical stamina she had while filming AYBS?A. She was slowing down even then. And no Moulterd....no....no....it just wouldn't work properly.

i agree with tiddles. a reunion at this point doesn't seem like the greatest idea. the actors have all gotten older and i don't think that the characters would come across the same now as they did then. it just wouldn't work. the actors would most likely be more than willing to do it, but it just wouldn't have the same feeling. besides. the jokes wouldn't be the same. i mean, mrs.slocombes pussy would have to be dead and buried and the other chracters running gags just wouldn't work with their age, they are better left where they ended all those years ago then tarnishing them now.

It was just a suggestion, but it would still be fun to have them all on the same stage just setting about talking about the old days.

Actually, I consider GAF to be the "reunion" show, anyway. Only it went on for a bit more than one ep! If they did another "reunion" type show they'd HAVE to take it far from Millstone Manner into another locale or story premise. To see them, aged, and trying to run the Manor may have some comic potential but younger people would be be needed for the types of physical comedy that they did. Especially Mollie and John. Now I have such a longing to watch these eps....it's been ages.
