Last month, 88-year-old Patricia Routledge finally joined the likes of Judi Dench and Maggie Smith, when she was made a Dame Commander of the British Empire in a grand ceremony at Buckingham Palace.
Routledge was recognized for her services to the theatre and charity and it seemed only fitting that presenting the honor was Prince Charles, who is patron of the Actors’ Benevolent Fund. The 130 year old fund helps support professional actors and managers who might need financial support owing to an illness, accident or who can no longer support themselves because of their age.
In To Sir With Love

Routledge was reportedly in a "state of surprise" at having received the honor and was "thrilled" that it was being presented by the Prince of Wales, who, according to Routledge was equally "pleased" that she was finally being made a Dame and among other things reportedly told the actress “at last somebody’s noticed!”
Not that Routledge hasn’t been honored in the past – her previous trips to the palace were in 1993 when she received an OBE and in 2004 when she received a CBE. But like the song goes, “there is nothing like a Dame,” and just like the figure Routledge plays to perfection, Hyacinth Bucket, she revealed that the medal would be on show at a lunch party she planned on hosting following the ceremony. Unlike Hyacinth, whose prized possessions are always displayed prominently, Routledge’s long-term plans for her medal were to keep it “safely in a drawer”.

Dame Patricia has been in show business now for sixty-five years and she’ll be recalling her experiences at the end of June, when she appears at the Festival of Chichester in an on stage conversation about her theatrical career. Tickets for the event are about twelve dollars, and refreshments are thrown in as well!

Of course you don’t have to travel to England to see Dame Patricia, you can see her each and every weekday afternoon at 2:30pm in Keeping Up Appearances – but you will have to make your own tea!

or did she attempt to call to queen to make sure they would be wearing complimentary hats? or to ensure that the queen's hat wouldn't upstage hers?

Yep. And I bet she held-up the ceremony by showing the Queen pictures from Sheridan's childhood photo albums.

or she sang...which for the sake of queen if she did I hope she used her REAL voice and not her hyacinth voice...because Dame Patricia really does have a lovely voice despite what she affected when playing Hyacinth..and dang that took talent to be a good singer and purposefully sing that off key

If she is going to show the poor Queen, pictures of Sheridan.

It should be with some of his hand sewed curtains, for the Queen as a gift.
