That item is a Swagger Stick. During WWI British Officers led their men over the Top carrying a Swagger Stick and not a weapon.

There were a couple of mentions of Early Morning Tea. I am not clear on the concept. What constitutes early morning? Do people wake up, have the tea, then go back to sleep? Or do they have the tea, go about their business for awhile, then have breakfast later? Or does it replace breakfast?

I guess it would be the same as my coffee. I wake up, have my cup of coffee and then a few hours later I have breakfast.

Some people use a Teasmade to have it in bed.

But usually it's just the first cup, usually with breakfast - and then you have elevenses later.

In a hotel it would usually come on a tray with breakfast early in the morning.

Just to keep consistency. It was old fashioned in the seventies.

If it's specifically early morning tea, then it's a cup straight after you wake up, before you perform your ablutions and dress. Kind of a kick-starter. Then you might do a few things before breakfast.

Then you'd have tea or coffee with breakfast and morning tea (or elevenses) at 11am.
