Default The Brittas Empire

I loved The Brittas Empire as a kid growing up in the '90s and I'm so glad it is coming back! I know much of the humour in the episodes were very "of their time" (very 90s wacky humour, though to be fair it is still much more funnier than practically all new crude sitcoms these days) but it holds a special place in my heart as one of my childhood shows and, to me, seeing new episodes will be amazing. I know it might not have the appeal that the series had when it was shown (what with much of the cast now being in their 50s) but I know I'll love seeing it back on, hopefully with much of the same original cast. Chris Barrie is a definite yes obviously, as Mr Brittas.

Is anyone here a fan and their thoughts?

I watched The Brittas Empire on a PBS Station from a distant city in the late 90's. I enjoyed the program very much. I have thought of looking for it on the internet. I just found it on YouTube.
Chris Barrie's character Gordon Brittas was in charge of a Leisure Center. He had plenty of bad ideas and was totlly annoying, he knew nothing of that. Something like Hyacinth Bucket.

Must have been pretty good. Ran for 7 series and set to return!

I'll just have to check that out! Thanks for bringing it to our attention Miss B.

I also saw this once on a PBS station in the '90's. I don't remember much of anything about it though. I've been all about finding different British shows on the internet and watching them lately so now that I see this one is online, I'll add this one to my list of shows to watch. I've been loving Chris Barrie on Red Dwarf (just got into that one).

Fan Theory. Gordon Brittas is the distant ancestor of Arnold Rimmer.

Yes, I recall Chris Barrie saying in an interview that in the 90s, he tended to play the same type of character - insensitive, annoying and quite nasally, if that is a word!

It's gone quite quiet on the possible return of TBE that caused a bit of hype last year. I still hope they do something as I'm not a massive Red Dwarf fan. I can watch it but I find TBE a lot funnier.

I read the article in the Mirror which said in part that it might be a one off Christmas Special.

I saw an episode of this being filmed back in the day! Used to love it! Carole was my favourite. I don't think this ever did come back - did it? Chris Barrie will be at our local Comic Con this year - he does a lot of them!

On the first page of this thread is a link to an article about Brittas Empire making a return. I do not know if it was a one off special or if it even came back.

I saw that, just wondered if it ever happened as I never heard that it did. Can't find anything on wikipedia so I guess it was just another idea that fell apart. Shame.
