Default Notice: Pop-ups

I've had a couple of members let me know that they are experiencing pop-ups and advertising at the forum as of late. Even if one member is having the problem, I like to know about these things.

The forum does NOT have pop-ups of any form, nor any form of forced advertising such as link insertions, redirects, etc. The servers and registrar are private so we will never have to be inconvenienced with such things. If you are experiencing pop-ups, it is due to some thing on your end, not the forum's.

That being said, we are here to help you find and fix the problem on your end!

First, always try a logout/clear cache/reboot/relogin. That fixes most problems. If you need details on how to do that, you can go here:
http://minki.net/aybsforum/faq.php?f..._loginproblems

Make sure that you don't have multiple browser tabs/windows open, as pop-ups could be coming from one of those.

Make sure that "http://www.minki.net/aybsforum/" or "http://www.aybs.net" appears in the URL bar. If you don't see that, then you are viewing the forum through another website's frame...which means you are getting the pop-ups from that first website since you never really left that first site.

Switch browsers to see if the issue is something in the browser itself. Perhaps you have an ad-on, plug-in or toolbar that is causing the problem.

If you are using a cloaking device, anonymizer, or privacy browser, keep in mind that almost all of them will often subject you to their advertising. Try visiting without it and see if that helps.

If you are using public/free Wi-Fi hot spots or free internet providers, keep in mind they may also subject you to advertising.

Keep your computer free of malware, adware, spyware and viruses, as any of them can get installed on your computer and wreak pop-up havoc. Keep those temp files cleared out as well. Some good (and free!) tools that you can use to root out such things are:

* Ad-Aware with Antivirus: http://www.lavasoft.com/products/ad_aware_free.php
Malware removal tool: http://www.microsoft.com/security/pc...e-removal.aspx
Malwarebytes Free: http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/
* Windows Defender: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downl...ils.aspx?id=17
* CCleaner: http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner
AVG Free: http://free.avg.com/us-en/homepage

(The forum doesn't officially endorse any of these programs; however, programs that I have personally used are marked with an asterik. Use any at your own risk. You can also use Google to find some more, both free and paid).

Finally, if problems persist, send me a screen shot of the problem so I can look at it and see if I see anything.

I noticed that today- I'm using a school computer and in a few posts, some of the words are brown-colored and underlined. When I pointed the mouse on it, there was an ad for "Make $867 Working from Home" Another post had a similar thing happen. This has never happened before and does not happen on my at-home computer.

Matter-of-Fact...the words "toolbar" and "internet providers" in your info post have them as well.

I believe you see those Mark. I however do not. I haven't seen those brown things with two different browsers. In a similar occurance some time ago I saw words in Red taht were links to something . No on else saw them. I was afraid I had infected the board.

Thanks Minki! I still don't know why I saw that lot last night. It's all right today.

It sounds like an issue with your school computer, especially since it's not happening at home. While you probably won't be able to install antispyware software on your school computer, you can definitely try the other tips listed.

They're using Windows 7...maybe that's it. Not happening here at the house...we used Mozilla Firefox.

I'm on Vista 32, Firefox 16.0.2. Didn't see them in IE. Ran Malwarebytes, nothing. AVG, nothing. HouseTrend Online scanner, nothing.
