Question with a Brit. Term

I was wondering if someone knew what a basal brush (?) is? Mr. Lucas mentions it when he is discussing with Mr. Humpharies where he kept his pajamas ("I kept mine inside my basal brush). Any help will be appreciated.

Basil Brush is a British childrens TV programme that started in 1966 and is still running. Basil is a puppet Fox, and you can still buy a toy Basil Brush in shops today.
