On the Buses was broadcasted in the late 60's and the eary 70's. It was a show with Stan Butler (played by Reg Verney) as a bus-driver and his good friend Jack Harper (played by the late Bob Grant) as a conducter. They worked at a bus-station in London and their chef was Inspector Blakw (who they always called Blakie or, if he wasn't there: Hitler).

Stan lived with his Mother, Mrs. Butler (was played by the late Doris Hare), his sister Olive (Anna Karen) en her husband Arthur. He've had an operation, which they always mentioned.

It was a very good show, whe're Jack and Stan always want to chat up nice girls and to insult the Inspector. You must just watch it, but is there anybody else who have ever seen this show?

Yes i've seen it, i have 66 episodes on video :P

Have you ever seen the 3 movie versions Ronald?
On The Buses
Mutiny On The Buses
Holiday On The Buses

Did you know there was also a spin-off series - 'Don't Drink The Water' which saw Blakey retire from the depot & go to live in Spain with his sister Dorothy.

Very sad about Bob Grant, he took his own life in 2003 :(

I enjoyed On the Buses, which was very popular in the early 70's when I was a child watching it first time around. It's amazing to think that Stephen Lewis (Inspector Blake) has carried that character on in the role of Smiler in Last of the Summer Wine now for 16 series since joining the show in 1990.

I've never seen these movies, Jug Ears, and also not all episodes. In fact, I've only seen 14 shows, because I bought a DVD in 2004. Very good show.

My English is not as good as it should be, but do yo mean that Bob Grant murdered himself?

Yes that's right Ronald, i'm afraid Bob Grant committed suicide in 2003, after suffering years of depression. :(

I've heard also that Reg Verney, who played Stan, is still alive and now 90 years old. That means that he wass still in his his 50's when the show started. I must say: He looked younger than that at the time.

In fact: He played in the show the role of the son of Mrs. Butler, who was played by Doris Hare, she was only 11 years older as Reg in real live.

I saw an interview with Bob in the mid to late 80s, and it was really, really disturbing. To be honest, he shouldn't ever have been unattended, cos it was obvious he was in a real state.
Shame, because I saw him in the audience of a play I went to in 1996 or thereabouts, and he was happy as larry-and had a gorgeous girlfriend.

I hear that in addition to the series by series releases of the dvds in region 2, there will be a complete boxset again on region 2 released later in the year.

p.s. those OTB films were made by Hammer Studios-and they were Hammer's greatest money makers!

I've just watched 'Holiday On The Buses' once again. Definitely my favourite of the three films. They just can't make em like this anymore.

Hilarious

My fave busses episode was where Blakie was on the top deck of the bus and Stan took a wrong turn and rammed the bus into a railway underpass and the look on Blakie's face just before the bus hit is still with me even though I saw it 30 or more years ago!
