View Full Version : Top 10 British Sitcoms
Mrs Featherstone
05-20-2006, 10:59 AM
I don't know if this has ever been done before on this site, but I thought I would share with you my top 10 British Sitcoms of all time, as you all seem to know so much about our sitcoms. The irony I find with all the US support on this website for British Sitcoms is that these days, probably 80% of Sitcoms on major British TV channels are from the US (most of them are actually very good).
My top 10 are:
1. Are You Being Served ?
2. Yes Minister/Yes Prime Minister
3. Last of the Summer Wine
4. Open All Hours
5. Red Dwarf
6. George & Mildred
7. Dads Army
8. The Fall & Rise of Reginald Perrin
9. Fawlty Towers
10. Up Pompeii
Warm Regards,
Mrs F

Yes, I am. Sadly, he passed away, but Ronnie Barker was a favorite of mine.
In fact, I've enjoyed the Dutch version of the show 'Porridge', which we called 'Laat maar zitten.'
The big Dutch television Star John Kraaykamp played the role that Ronnie Barker had in Porridge. John met Ronnie sometime and he heard that Ronnie liked the way he did the part.
Now, John Kraaykamp is 81 years old en still play parts in Dutch sitcoms en theathre shows.

The Brittas Empire was an excellent over the top comedy. Especially the Performances by Chris Barrie as Gordon Brittas and Pippa Haywood as Helen Brittas. As a big Red Dwarf fan I like anything with Chris Barrie in.

"Married for Life" was based on the US version of "Married with Children". Only a handful of eppys. But I don't think "My Family" was though.
