A friendly hello from a newbie. I'm from the north of England, and I'm a writer and acoustic engineer.

While my affection for the original series of AYBS? is immense (seeing as I am, after all, English, and thus genetically predisposed to enjoy lewd farce) it is my adoration of the short-lived "Grace and Favour" which prompted me to come looking for fellow fans.

I look forward to meeting you all!

Hi there! We could use more British fans here--it seems like most of us are North American (odd for a quintessentially British TV show). :-\

Hello Zircon... welcome.. I really enjoy this board as I hope you will as well. :D

Since you are from England, I have a question for you. I have been writing to a friend in England for over 22 years now, since I was 11. We got each others addresses through a pen pal program in school and have kept in contact all these years. We have never met but we hope to one day. My question is.. I'm still not sure what city she lives in.. Her address ends in Wisbech, Cambs, England.. Is Wisbech the city? or Is Cambs the city? Is Cambs short for Cambridge? Please forgive my ignorance :? .. Any help would be appreciated.. thanks..

Hello Goldie (and thank you all for the nice welcome)

Your pal lives in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire. England is divided up into counties, most of which end -shire. The standard abbreviation used is the -s suffix. So my written address, in Lancashire, would contain "Lancs."

Within a county there are numerous cities, towns and villages. I'd need to look at my road atlas to see how close Wisbech is to Cambridge, but they'll be relatively close as they're in the same county.

Most counties have a name derived from the "county town" - Yorkshire, Cambridgeshire, Oxfordshire etc.

Hope this helps.
