Hello everybody,

I'm from Holland and I'm visiting this forum for a week now. I'ts a very nice forum, especially the blooper-thing and the strange things in the shows that not is correct by seeing earlier shows. But, who cares? In the opinion of most Dutch people the British sitcoms are the best in the world.

In AYBS my favorite caracters where Mr. Lucas, Mrs. Slocombe, Mr. Grainger and last but not least Young Mr. Grace.

I have every episode off AYBS on VHS or DVD. The episodes of AYBSA not, and that's a pity.

Also I have taped episodes of George and Mildred and Dad's Army.

But there are so many good Britisch sitcoms. In Holland, we have seen serveral other (some examples):

- Oh, doctor Beeching
- Ain't It half Hot Mum?
- The good life
- You rang My Lord?
- Porridge (also brilliantly re-played in the Dutch language with starring rols of Mr. John Kraaykamp and the late Sacco van der Made)
- Fawlty Towers
- Open all hours
- Only fools and horses
- Last of the summer wine
- Allo Allo
- Man about the house (George and Mildred was a spinn-off of this show)
- One foot in the grave
- Waiting for God
- The Minstor Manor (or something, Penelope Keith was in it)

I know I will forgotten something, but if you're curious if a very show of yours that I did'nt mention was played in Holland or not, please ask me.

I'm sorry, but my English is not 100%, but I think you will understand most of it.

Kindest regards,

Ronald.

Welcome Ronald !!! Very happy to have you on board !!!
"To The Manor Born" was the show with Penelope Keith, I love that one myself.
Don't worry about the English, look at the way most of us write here on the board.

Yes, To The Manor Born, that was the correct name. Thanks Greg.

And about the English: I think I can see that my English is better than the Dutch of most of the members here.

Hi Ronald! Welcome to the forum! :D

I think you are our first member from Holland! Don't worry about your English--it looks great. Besides, if there's ever a communication problem, I've got a few Dutch friends I can call on to help us out :D

That's all right Minki. In Holland a lot of people love the show and wenn it's repeated on national television there are more viewers than with the best scoring soap in our country.

Hello there Ronald :hat:

In Holland it was broadcasted as "Stiefbeen en Zoon", a Dutch version of the show. I thought in England it was "Stanford and Son" and in the USA "Steptoe and Son", but England an the USA could be they other way around.

But I never saw the show, because I'm only 29 years old, and I can't remember the Dutch version was ever been repeated on national television. However, sometimes, there are some short moments in historical shows.

A bit old fashion, but still very nice.

Welcome to the board Ronald!

In England it was Steptoe and Son, and here in the USA it was Sanford and Son.

I've never seen any Stanford & Son, was it funny??

Hilarious. Two of my all time favorite comedians starred in the show, Redd Foxx and LaWanda Page. Plus it was set in a part of Los Angeles very near to where I was born and lived part of my life, as well as where my parents grew up. One of my personal top 5 American sitcoms of all time.

One of the show's writers was a young, relatively unknown comedic genius by the name of Richard Pryor. He could make the phone book funny.
