In your humble opinion, when do you feel that AYBS? took the plunge into mediocrity ? Do you feel it took the plunge at all ??? Let us know !!! Some would call this "Jumping The Shark", when a change or changes affects the feel of the show. Step right up and place you vote on the poll and let your voice be heard !!!

MMMM_____Greg

I think the writers were still together for my vote...
{But I'm not checking ot it this morning}...

"SEASON NUMBER EIGHT"

The one with Milo and Benny as the Seniors...

That was the begining of the end.

:( Lucas :(

There were a few episodes that I didn't care too much for. Especially when OMG replaced YMG. I thought that was just plain silly. Especially since YMG inherited Grace Brothers from a distant uncle there was no reason for YMG to even HAVE a brother, much less an older one.

But beyond those few episodes I like the show right up till the end.

I personally never thought that the show took the plunge. I love every episode from beginning to end and each for its own reasons. I actually like the newer episodes better, so for me there was no plunge.

The writing went down for the last 3 years.

Spooner's actions were a clone of Mr. Lucas.

And don't get me started again on the seniors.

I think the show was best with 3 different people in Menswear.

But, I still love the show.

The show, for me, took a little slide when it became the "Wilberforce" show. That could go right along with "Whe Grainger left" because Season 6 is when it all started to happen.
Even though the show was originally written around Lucas, Humphries had some damned good moments as did Betty in the early years. The last few years just seemed to have 90% of the story lines written around them. It seemed the writer/writers were just concerned over their story lines, threw Peacock a few stale eppys and poor Miss Brahms got 1/4 of an eppy.
I know this goes along with "Slocombe and Humphries" were the most popular characters so they had to write stories around them for the fans.
That's when it started going downhill for me.

To me the show did a slide after Arthur Brough died.

I enjoyed the show right up til the end, only about 2 epis I just don't like.
So for me it never did "jump the shark".

I think the show was entertaining to the very last episode.

However, it was never quite as good for me after we lost Ernest Grainger. Episodes like "The Clock", "Forward Mr Grainger", "Takeover" and "Goodbye, Mr Grainger" were some of my favourites, and episodes where Arthur Brough was on top form.

Later, the show suffered when Trevor Bannister left, as Mr Lucas interacted so well with Mr Humphries, and in conflict with Mrs Slocombe.

I see all of your points and I'll raise this I do like all of the episodes, but stuff happens. Life sometimes interferes with fantasy and I'll be the first to say I wish the show had gone to a Hundred episodes with both Mr Lucas and Mr Grainger in them.

I think once Lucas left the show began its slow descent into Jumping the Sharkdom...not that it turned horrible, but it was starting to fade.

When Mr. Grainger left the show. Series 5 has a completely different feel to it than series 6. I don't know if it's just the difference in Seniors of the Men's department or something else.

I agree JH. That's also when the reign were handed over to Humphries as the lead.

When Lucas left. There are some episodes I like with Spooner, but for the most part, it was hard to have Grace Bros. without Lucas.
