Have a happy Easter everyone!!
All I Need to Learn about Life I learned from the Easter Bunny!
* Don't put all your eggs in one basket.
* Walk softly and carry a big carrot.
* Everyone needs a friend who is all ears.
* There's no such thing as too much candy.
* All work and no play can make you a basket case.
* A cute little tail attracts a lot of attention.
* Everyone is entitled to a bad hare day.
* Let happy thoughts multiply like rabbits.
* Some body parts should be floppy.
* Keep you paws off other people's jellybeans.
* Good things come in small-sugarcoated packages.
* The grass is greener in someone else's basket.
* An Easter bonnet can tame even the wildest hare.
* To show your true colors you have to come out of the shell.
* The best things in life are still sweet and gooey.
HAPPY EASTER

I will be gorging myself today on Reese's white chocolate eggs (those things are big).
When I was watching Easter services on TV this morning, the pastor said that butterflies used to be a symbol of Easter. I wonder why butterflies were replaced by bunnies. :?

It's more fun to bite off bunny ears than butterfly antennae! :D

To make a long story short. Easter was not a Christian holiday in the first place. It was a pagan holiday in which they worship the Goddess Ester (the Goddess of Spring). The rabbit symbolized "fertility" and the egg symbolized "rebirth".
There is your short history lesson for the day.

I think he meant that the celebration of Christ's resurrection used to be symbolized by the butterfly. Of course, he went on to confuse things by adding he preferred the butterfly symbolism to that of the bunny. He also told this anecdote about a preacher trying to get kids to understand the meaning of Easter. After asking what was the meaning of Easter and getting nothing but bunny replies, one boy finally said "Jesus came out of the tomb." The preacher said "That's right!", to which the boy added "And if he sees his shadow, he goes back in for 6 more weeks."

Actually, while Easter maybe named for some obscure pagan holiday(and there are some leftover remnants from that holiday as Greg pointed out), it is in Christian terms the fulfillment of the Jewish Passover holiday. Its timing coincides every year with Jewish Passover. Christ died at passover time to be the perfect passover lamb. Easter Sunday is the celebration of Christ's triumph over death, God's demonstration that Christ's sacrifice was
acceptable to Him. Christians did not borrow a pagan holiday
and re-use it to their purposes.
