Are You Being Served? Not by this terrible TV spin-off
A POLL has found that the worst film made from a television series is Are You Being Served?
More than 8,000 Radio Times readers voted for the worst films based on TV shows.
Top of the flops is the 1977 film spin-off of the department store comedy in which Mrs Slocombe leaves her pussy behind to join her Grace Brothers colleagues on a jaunt to the Costa Plonka. Next comes the 1998 remake of The Avengers starring Uma Thurman and Ralph Fiennes.
In an introduction to the magazine's new film guide, critic Barry Norman says: "Most movie spin-offs from TV series are doomed to failure because each episode of a series is simply an anecdote, whereas a movie should at least be a short novel - and you can't make a novel out of an anecdote."
