Been finding more foods available recently in this area.

Heinz baked beans-great on toast. I'm hooked.

Branston Pickle-crunchy with an intense steak sauce flavor great w/ cold cuts.

Derr's gooseberry preserves-great but somewhat pricey.

Colmans mustard- always on hand.

Lion candy bar-tasty and different.

also saw Colmans seasoning mixes but they looked to be quite salty so may not try them.....

Sharwood's hot curry powder--usually don't like premixed curry powder but this is excellent!

would like to try some traditional British candies like rhubarb and custard, scottish tablet, toffees, pear drops, or other boiled sweets.(flavors you would never find in the USA)

Thanks for this great thread! I am a chef and I am also 1/4 pure Brit. So I love reading what you think is good. I've had "baked beans on toast" but not the "real thing" imported. I think I can get that at my ShopRite. :) My fave Brit candy are Roundtree's Fruit Gums. YUM!!! I can get them at Adams Wholefoods.

I bought some Heinz baked beans today! Much different from American style. The sauce was a thinner tomato sauce...not too sweet....no molasses. Beans are small white beans with, believe it or not, some "al dente" quality left in them. I think I prefer the more highly seasoned, softer version we have in the USA. I favor Bush's Baked Beans and I doctor them up with a bit of ketchup, onion and then top with bacon strips and then bake the bejeezus outta them. Yum!!

After Tidddles goes to all that trouble to 'doctor up' the beans she may as well start with the beans from her bean bag chair.:lol2:

I suppose you'd have to hang them on the line then to get anyone to see them.( Runs and Hides)

I think about the movie "Tommy" when the baked beans are spilling all over Ann Margret.

These are in my kitchen now:

Bird's Custard Powder

Bisto

Heinz Baked Beans

Goldenfry Yorkshire Pudding Mix

Branston Pickle

And that light, airy, honey tasting candy that's similar to the Aussie Velvet Crumble. I'd go look but I'm too damn lazy to haul my ass into the kitchen this morning.

There's an American product almost identical to Heinz Baked Beans. Can't recall the brand, although it's one of the majors. They call them Vegetarian Beans.

Bush's Vegetarian beans are very good but they have a thick mollasses based sauce....nothing like the Brit import. I'll have to see if I can get some Heinz American style vegetarian and give those a taste test. :)

It def wasn't Bush vegetarian beans I tried. I'll have to see them on the shelf, as my befuddled old mind won't ever hork up the name.

Is that a Cadbury's Crunchie? or is it little round things called Maltesers?

I like the Nestle's Aero candy bars.

My friend who traveled to Toronto,Canada to see the office door of her favorite actor's agent. Brought back several Aero Candy Bars, but didn't offer me any. I have seen them in a few local stores though. I tried one and it wasn't half bad. :D

My favorite is Cadbury's "Flake" bars. You can get them in Canada, I believe, but hard to find here in the Midwest.

Galaxy Ripples are even better than Flakes. There's also a white choc Snow Flake and a Praline Flake, with little crispy bits of sugar.

I'm addicted to...Jaffa bars, they're called? It's orange flavored marzipan in dark chocolate.

I also love the Patak's line of Indian cuisine sauces...which have helped me get through the last year and a half here because there is not a single Indian restaurant for miles around!
