My PBS station just began broadcasting this show a few weeks ago and I LOVE it! This show is hilarious! I've often heard about this show in the past but never actually took the time to watch it -- thank goodness PBS started showing it or else I would never have discovered it! :D

Officer Crabtree makes the whole show worth watching

You should buy the "script books"-they are a hoot.

The War Diaries of Rene Artois they're called.

You do know that 'Allo, 'Allo was based on a series called "Secret Army", which is a series drama about Belgian resistance in WWII? Someone here has an avatar with one of the characters from it  It's a brilliant series too-on a totally different level of course.

I also like 'Allo 'Allo! Fortunately for me, my mom has the first two seasons on DVD so I've watched them. I only have one complaint. It takes them WAAAAAYYY too long to bring them to DVD :!:

I love this one too! I was about eight years old when I first saw it, and my favourite character at the time had to be Helga, the General's secretary. She was allowed to shout at people and all the men fancied her - that looked cool to an eight year old girl!
I never really knew about Gruber back then, but laughed all the same. I remember wishing I could go to the stage show in 1990-91 as well, but was a bit too young.
Great series, and there's a fantastic site called the Knockwurst page (or something like that) on line to visit as well.

Greg, there were 85 episodes. 5 seasons. The 5th season had 26 episodes which was intended to attract US audiences, but it failed. To read more go to http://www.bbc.co.uk/comedy/guide/articles/a/alloallo_7770250.shtml

You can click on the link from here. I tried it and it works this time! :D

Oh my! I had almost forgotten about Allo Allo! :D I used to love this show until my PBS station dropped it years ago. :(

I saw Gordon Kaye on something (I think it was Last of the Summer Wine) last night, and fully expected to hear that accent from not only Allo Allo, but from the times he appeared on Are You Being Served? as well :D

A funny funny brit-com.....
A great vehicle for Gordon (or is it Gorden) Kaye!

I love his (Rene=Gordon Kaye) soliloquies at the beginning of each episode!!!!

Its WWII france,
where every side is stupid(the french, the french resistance, the communist resistance, the german army, the gestapo, the english and let's not forget the english airmen). but it works....

Besides being killed and coming back as your own brother with the same name, what could be more normal than that?

Let's not forget Gordon Kaye, cameo'd in 3 AYBS eppys......

I shall say this only once, (great line from Michelle of the resistance)...

Gorden Kay was on a few episodes of AYBS. A great actor.

I just love Allo, Allo (especially Sam Kelly---who was also in The BritCom "Barbara", which I like very much).

She plays Rene's childhood sweetheart and now leader of the FrenchCommunist Resistance. She's in several episodes. Actually, I think
she is more an ALlo Allo character than AYBS.

There are 3,

Closed Circuit ( where Miss Brahms does the commercial, but OMG nurse gets the guy.)

The one where GK is a scottish photographer. Gaberdine Angus or Candid Cameron in, "Mrs. Slocombe, Senior Person"

"Mr. Tomiades" in episode: "Do You Take This Man?"

I have the first 4 series on DVD and taped most of series five from TV.
One of the extra features on dvd is 6 of the cast members on a live
TV game show.....can't remember the name but its the UK version of the
Match game.(I think this is on series 3)
It was interesting to see the cast out of character. And the host was
hilarious as well.

And Spoonme, don't forget "You Stupid Woman"

Oh and I think our version of The Match Game was Blankety Blank - like Hollywood Squares right?

KLOMP!!!

(or something similar)

The'se where the words of Captain Hans Geering of the German Army. I first thought that he said these words. In fact, what he said was:

TLER (from Heil Hitler)

but he said it so fast that it looked as if he said: KLOMP or KLOPT

Ronald

I think it's a nice show, but far not as good as shows as AYBS, Dad's Army and On the Buses.

There were very good things in it, like:

* Good murning (Off. Crabtree)
* Se flashing Nobbs (Madame Fanny)
* You stupid Women (Rene)
* Listen very carefully, I will say this only once (Michelle)

but the plot was always the same, 2 Britisch airman must be brought back to England, but every time that the Resistance makes a plan it don't work.

But I've watched the show always, but a bit off the same al together.
