[I wasn't sure if this fit the Photo Lab forum guidelines, so that's why it's in Chit-Chat]

Got an early Xmas present--a digital camera (my first ever). This page has some of the first pics I've taken: a scenic view from my back door, my neighbor's little dog (I have to look after her quite often while my neighbor goes out of town), and my "baby".

More pics, including the AYBS? LaserDisc (had a hard time keeping an awful flash reflection out of that one) and my first iMac (which I still use for such things as playing old games that won't run or run poorly in Mac OS X):

I won't be making any more pictures for a while until I can get a decent batttery (it came with ordinary alkaline batteries, which last about 30 minutes  )

MM,

Its good to see that the video vault is secure
Loved the pink and white lamp.

Star Trek dvds...very cool. Ditto Airplane(s) dvds.
But, I thought the most telling thing in the pics was that you
have the "TOP SECRET" dvd.....This says a lot. uh, I have it too! What a
great weird flick!

The audio commentary on the "Top Secret" disc is hilarious; they kept joking about what a bomb the movie was. When "The End" came on the screen, they remarked "We should have put 'Thank God' up there instead."

I did too. According to the audio commentary, very few people did; to this day, the movie has yet to break even. (BTW, I found the DVD in a Wal-Mart discount bin for $5.00.) I'm glad you liked the pic of the AYBS? LD--now if I could only learn to take pics without that horrible flash reflection.

THe phony East German anthem always bothered me (since I'd learned in German class the name of the real anthem, "Auferstanden aus Ruinen"). I heard it in the movie and said to myself "That's not the real anthem! Who are they trying to fool?"

Didn't the German anthem used to be,forgive my spelling, Deutshland Uber Alles during the war?

You're kidding! Top Secret is one of my favorite movies! My dad took us to see it when we were kids and we've just about burned out the tape (I got a replacement DVD in the WalMart discount bin too). You can't not laugh when you watch the movie!

Yes, then after Germany was divided, West Germany kept that song (but dropped the militaristic-sounding first verse). Today it is the anthem of all of Germany again, and (as I was rudely reminded by a German who objected to my "German Week Glossary" page and who had never seen AYBS?) it is known as "Das Deutschlandlied" (Song of Germany).
