They aren't difficult to make but who has the time at Christmas??!! But if you do make them then at least you know you won't be getting another classy pair of plastic lips or a Fu Manchu finger.

Crackers aren't what they used to be - the hats were much classier in the old days all sparkly and different shapes. The jokes have remained the same since Queen Victoria's reign.

At one Christmas party, we had crackers. They were fun...I wasn't a fan of the trinket inside (of the dinky, cheap variety), but the hats were nifty.

We had them again this year and it's worth spending a bit more and getting real English ones. The prizes inside are really very nice quality. And you get a hat, some riddles/jokes, confetti, and the trinket.

I agree you can get some really nice things now but after so many years it's difficult to find a box that doesnt contain things you have already had. I keep searching though! maybe I should make my own this year - make them now!
