View Full Version : 1974/2010 What would be different for "The Clock"?

O.K., well start off with the next eppy of the bunch. "The Clock " eppy is up for our cultural exchange discussion this week.

"The Clock " was originally done back in 1974. If a time machine would allow us to to scoop up the whole cast and crew and bring them here to 2010, what are some of the script and or prop changes that would have to be made to fit out fearless cast into modern times without taking away from the original storyline ??

You've all seen the eppy so now let's discuss !!!

No farewell dinner, just a $50 gift card for Ernest at the Sizzler.

I guess to keep the plot together, they would have had the farewell dinner, but had it at the Sizzler. For insurance purposes, no alcohol at the dinner, but the staff would meet at a nearby bar afterwards for informal drinks at their own expense.

No Trixy Trio... boom box.

The clock would be a digital clock with dual alarms and an iPod port

I think it would have to be in the store and not a Sizzler. I think taking it out of the store would affect the original feel of the story.

For one I don't think that Ernest could retire at such a young age these days.

Mr. Grainger would receive a Gift Card from Walmart and there would be a mini-bar so Mr. Mash wouldn't have to hold a tray of drinks for everyone and since it would be after-hours the Cleaning Ladies would be invited as well.

This time instead of the Trixie Trio they would have actually had the The New Seekers which would have included a few old knockers :D

Instead of Miss Brahms wanting the band to play stuff from the Rolling Stones, it would be the Arctic Monkeys or Kasabian- two of Britain's modern rock bands..

Also, Mr. Lucas would probably have been sued for telling Miss Brahms that she "had a lot to sit on"

Also the prices for the dinner would have gone up and Mr. Lucas and Mr. Humphries would have made a stop at 7-11 for their cocoa.

 With the economy and all the discussions around what to do with Social Security, he'd probably still keep working because he'd be afraid his pension would leave him in the poorhouse.

I don't think he would have gotten a clock. He probably would get some gadget discounted from the electronics department like a 3-year-old iPod or Nintendo DS that he couldn't figure out how to use.

I would like to see that the Girl from Habedassery (I don't know how to write it) that he put 25 Years ago in the club (From A Tangled web:

Lucas: "The Social Club?"
Grainger: "The Pudding Club, you fool. Do you think you invented it?")

turns up with their son or doughter.

Miss Brahms would shake her booty while Sir Mix A Lot's "Babys Got Back" plays in the background.

So true but then you would have to wonder how many companies in this day and age actually have pension plans ?? :(

That could be a hilarious scene with him getting angry and cursing because he doesn't know how to operate it. (like I do because of lack of patience)

I would like to see Hyacinth Bucket (Bouquet) in the shop with Mrs Slocombe and Miss Brahms, or with Richard and with Mr. Grainger and Mr. Humphries.

The store would have been remodled by now so that there would indeed by an escalator leading from the lifts onto the sales floor. I can hear Mrs. Slocombe now: "Someday, that staircase is going to do somebody a mischief!"

I think Mr. Grainger's farewell dinner would be much the same except that it would take place at lunchtime and be a potluck. There would be a table situated conveniently near several wall outlets so that crock pots could be plugged in and left all morning on the Keep Warm setting.

The gifts certainly would be the same. That combination shoe horn and back scratcher looks familiar. I'd be the one giving the bath salts.

Oh, and there would be an extra large sheet cake decorated with "Congrats to Ernie!" on the top.

I agree that it would likely be a potluck at lunchtime, but if by chance the staff did return for an evening do, they wouldn't be wearing such fancy duds. Smartly casual, probably.
