I really liked her. She's so sweet and the scenes between her and Mr. Humphries were cute. :)

Mavis is the breath of fresh air that makes the new series really new.
She is the girl next door who is sweet, pretty, and down to earth....
maybe just a little naive... whatever it is, it really works.

Her naive features are what make her so sweet, to me. Altogether, she was such a gentle soul who always made you smile when she came on set.

I also enjoyed watching her too! But Miss. Brahms was still my favorite. :)

You are totally right Greg, but unfortunately no one asked me to be on
AYBSA so she could "waste" her time on me!!

I thought they had a wonderful time together. Mavis was perfect for Mr. Humphries. She was adorable. It would of been great to see more.

I always thought it would have been hilarious to have a fight break out between Malcolme and Humphries and then the next thing you see is those two running off together and Mavis just standing there scratching her head !!! :lol2:

It would have been great to see more.
They were meant to be good friends. Nothing more, nothing less. If they'd been married, poor Mavis would have needed Macolm anyway. For recreational purposes  .

Mavis is one of my favorite characters.
I'll never forget in the second episode when she came downstairs and announced to everyone at breakfast that she was missing her knickers! Mr. Humphries, that sly dog.....

I believe Mavis Moulterd was played by Fleur Bennett.
Was she related to Harold Bennett, who played the role off Young Mr. Grace so brilliant?

I thought the best story the show had was the fact that we have a group of workers ready to retire only to find themselves being manual labour at their own Manor house.

I think the story line started to put Mr. Humphries thinking toward finding a soulmate: Maybe it was just friends or more, as he said in the 4th episode when Mavis and he were peeling onions, "I never found Miss Right". It could also be writers just keeping the suspense up as to is he or isn't he....either way, I think it was the heartwarming and most hilarious continuing story line of GAF.

I thought the same thing! It wound take a sweet girl to make Mr. Humphries Love!!!

I thought Mavis and Mr Humphries' friendship was sweet...but the writers tried way too hard to "wink wink, nod nod" (in other words, imply) that there was more going on between them than friendship. After a while I found the idea that they were trying to put forth a bit nauseating.
Some innuendo naturally *had* to be there (because that's what made AYBS what it was!) It was funny to have everyone assuming something was going on between them. But not to the point that he thought there could be something going on between them...it felt like they were trying way too hard to make us forget all of AYBS and believe the first sweet young country girl that comes along and suddenly he's hetero.
Even in one of the bonus segments on the AYBS 14 disc set, (the "funny turns: John Inman" one I believe) one of the writers said of GAF that they "didn't wan't him to be seen as someone who couldn't have or girlfriend" or something similarly ridiculous. As if.
The occasional "ambiguity" he showed in AYBS was funny, because real life is like that some times. Asking Mr. Lucas (or whoever) "what makes you think it's a he?" was cute. The idea that Mavis = "instant turnaround", not so cute.
That being said, I thought they were sweet together. Their friendship was nice. I think she filled the "best gal pal" role that at one time Mrs Slocombe, or even at times his mother may have filled. Think of the busy social life he had when he worked at Grace Bros. Then he's plopped down in the middle of nowhere, Mrs. Slocombe is now a more "matronly" woman rather than the "pub crawling, going to roller disco and punk parties with Mr Humphries" person she once was. (Besides, she had her hands full with Moulterd,.) So someone needed to fill that role for him. But that's as far as it went (or should have went), in my opinion.
