Great thread! What scene isn't a classic with Mr. Lucas in it! His delightfully wicked and cheeky sense of humour are the greatest points of early AYBS? eps! I love all of his grand "late for work" excuses and his laments about working in general:


"'Look at that poor, handsome, young assistant. I bet he's fair worn out with gettin' up early and standing in the frozen snow. I bet he hasn't had a proper breakfast except for a cup of coffee in a miserable paper cup. We must all buy something from him, so he can afford a proper lunch, then he'll have the strength to struggle home, fall exhausted into bed, and get up early in the mornin' and start the whole process all over again.'"

Mine was from Punch and Judy when the devil told him to steal the sausages and when the butcher asked what he wanted he said" sausages" the way he said he sounded possessed. :eek:

It's not a funny moment, but I love it when Lucas arrives for dinner at the hotel in the movie. He looks great in that white suit, and I'm sure Goldie will agree...very nice!

That's the second time he's mentioned wearing gloves on his feet to stay warm. The first was the "Life Like Imitation Rabbit" ones.

My favorite Mr Lucas moments would have to be:

1) In Happy Returns (although I loved the horse bit too) when Mr Lucas refuses to take his smock off and then looks Mr Humphries up and down and says "What have I got to loose?" And he takes his smock off. - Actually Happy Returns is one of my favorite episodes

2) I also liked it in.. I think it was Bliss when Captain Peacock gets put in Mr Humphries position and Mr Lucas starts going "I felt really sorry for you in there Captian Peacock being demoted like that... (I can't remember the whole quote)

Top Hats and Tails has to have another one of my favorite "Lucas" moment when the staff are practicing the dance and Lucas and Slocombe are together.
Lucas - "I can't find the small of her back... I can find the big of her back but not the small of her back !!!"

Those are all classic Lucas moments!!! Too many to have a favorite though.

The date where he took of the car door handle.

Goosing every one with his Little Boy Blue horn.

The episode where Miss Brahms had to open the suggestion box with her
hair pin, there's a picture of a Rumbold as a toby jug. Then Rumbold says
what are we going to do to improve things...Lucas says " you could try
making the ears bigger" that always gets me.

one episode ive watched recently is the old order changes... even after watching it absolutely loads of times since i got into the show, i still find it hilarious when the rest of the staff find out his first name!
it's the way he says 'just call me mr lucas' with such a deadpan expression that i find so funny for some reason.
i also love the bit after he insults mrs slocombe once again...
