I was out shopping today at a video- dvd store. Near the exit they had a mechanical Santa. Of course there was a little kid near it and all I could think of was the Christmas Santa on AYBS. Did that sort of thing ever happen to the rest of you?

No, some kid always beats me to it!

I haven't seen any AYBS? type displays in my local dept. store other than the busts with bras on them in the ladies' lingerie dept. I am always expecting them to twirl and light up! Or I expect to see them with a scarf with pom-poms wrapped round them.

In Richmond there's a chain of men's shops called Shevel's that always made me think of Grace Brothers. It had that same outdated atmosphere with wood panelling on the walls, plain displays usually centered on what time of year it is, and usually a lone shop assistant looking bored out of his mind because there's no customers.

Here in Canada, the mannequins are always wearing oven mitts on their feet, and ear muffs on their....just kidding. We only have the regular mannequins here.

When I was 15, at school at a technick lesson we made the display of Pussy Boots, but it didn't blew up, so we don't have to take it to the vet.

That would have been neat to do !!!

I have the same thing passing tailor shops and the like. I always expect to see one of the AYBS cast members in there. Talk about typecasting of shops!

I think the mechanical displays were very popular in the late 70's and 80's.
Of course that is the AYBS time frame too. You don't see a lot of them now.
I think the decor today is "clean lines" as they call it

Today's store owners obviously haven't read Captain Peacock's study on moving display items versus static ones.
