I never really paid attention to research "Gary Glitter" to see if he was a real person. Well he's a "real person" but he's also a disgusting child molester! No wonder Mrs. Brahms kicks the set in when he's on the TV!!
Gary Glitter arrested
6.20PM, Sat Nov 19 2005
Shamed '70s glam rock star Gary Glitter was today arrested at an
airport in Vietnam as he tried to board a flight to Bangkok.
The 61-year-old, real name Paul Francis Gadd, was wanted by police over
allegations of "obscene acts with a child".
He fled his rented home in Vietnam a week ago amid allegations over his
relationships with two underage girls.
Authorities have interviewed a 15-year-old girl who they found there.
He was detained at the international airport in Ho Chi Minh City after
being stopped by an immigration officer, state-controlled media
reported.
The officer, Le Anh Tuan, realised the name in Glitter's passport
matched a newspaper article he had read about him being wanted.
Glitter was picked up this afternoon and taken back to the Ba-Ria Vung
Tau province where he had been living.
It was unclear from reports whether Glitter was travelling alone or was
with the 14-year-old girl with whom he was believed to have gone on the
run.
Earlier it emerged that police had launched a criminal investigation
into the singer.
He has been living in the coastal resort of Vung Tau since March and
had been seen with two Vietnamese girls who he later took home.
Earlier this week Vietnam's Foreign Ministry said Glitter had applied
for permanent resident status in the country.
But a spokesman warned that "very strict legal measures" would be
applied if there was evidence of a crime.
Under Vietnamese law, the charge of obscene acts with a minor carries a
penalty of one to five years in jail.
Glitter was convicted in Britain in 1999 of possessing child
pornography and served half of a four-month jail sentence before being
released.
He later went to Cambodia and was permanently expelled in 2002,
reportedly for trawling for underage sex.

I can't believe none of you people have ever heard of Gary Glitter !!!! He gave us the perennial classic "Rock and Roll Part 2" that if youhave even watched 2 seconds of any sports, you have it burned into your brain. He did "Do You Want To Touch Me" that Joan Jett and The Blackhearts redid back in the 80's.
He was arrested a few years back in England when his computer broke and he took it into the shop to get it repaired. They found all sorts of child pornography on his computer. The police raided his house and found hundreds of video tapes with kiddie porn on them along with a couple other computers filled with the stuff. He went to prison, got out and asked the media to leave him alone. Then he wanted to move to some Asian country where the leagal age was 12 and the President of the country exiled him and told him not to come back.
The two references to Gary Glitter on AYBS? were when Miss Brahms was dressed up as the "fairy" and said "I feel like Gary Glitter in this lot" and then again when Miss Brahms had to get home because the "Top Of The Pops" was on and she had to hold her mother back from kicking in the set when Gary Glitter comes on.

Gary Glitter may face death penalty
From: Press Association By Martha Linden in London
November 22, 2005
DISGRACED 1970s rock star Gary Glitter could face death by firing squad
if convicted of having sex with a girl aged just 12, police in Vietnam
have said.
Sexual intercourse with a 12-year-old regardless of whether there is
consent is considered rape under Vietnamese law, with a maximum penalty
of death before a firing squad.
The revelations come after two girls, aged 12 and 18 years, told the
police they had sex with the former singer - real name Paul Francis Gadd
- at his rented home in the southern resort of Vung Tau in Vietnam.
There were conflicting reports that the second girl had not yet turned 18.
Under Vietnamese law, sexual contact with a minor carries varying
degrees of penalties, depending on the charge.
Obscene acts with a child can lead to up to 12 years in prison while
child rape carries the maximum penalty of death before a firing squad.
The 61-year-old former singer was arrested on Saturday at Tan Son Nhat
International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City as he tried to flee the
country. He left his rented home in Vung Tau a week ago amid allegations
about his relationships with two teenage girls.
Glitter has been taken back to Vung Tau for further investigation by the
police.
He has not been charged with any crime but remains in custody at a jail
outside the coastal city, police said.
Vung Tau police said today they were continuing to investigate the case
and will be questioning him further.
The case has been highly publicised in the state-controlled media, which
had reported Glitter was seen in Vung Tau with several teenage girls,
whom he invited to his home, since moving to the area in March.

Lawyer: Glitter admits having girl in bed
HANOI, Vietnam (AP) ? Former British rocker Gary Glitter admitted to police that an 11-year-old girl slept in his bed, but denied sexually abusing her, his attorney said Thursday.
Gary Glitter claimed he slept in the same bed as an 11-year-old girl but only because she was afraid of ghosts.
By Tuoi Tre, AP
During interrogations by police, Glitter said he allowed the girl to sleep in his bed after she claimed she was afraid of ghosts, attorney Le Thanh Kinh told The Associated Press.
Glitter, 61, whose real name is Paul Francis Gadd, is being held in Phuoc Co prison outside coastal Vung Tau city on suspicion of engaging in obscene acts with a child ? a charge punishable by up to 12 years in prison.
He is being held amid allegations of having sex with several underage girls, including an 11-year-old and 12-year-old, at his rented seaside home in Vung Tau.
Glitter, who has denied all allegations, has not been formally charged. He has been held since Nov. 19, when he was seized while trying to board a flight to Bangkok from Ho Chi Minh City.
During questioning by police, Glitter "answered that when this girl (and her aunt) came to his house, he put them in the guest room. But in the middle of night, they said they were very afraid of ghosts and they cannot sleep. So they came to his room and slept there," Kinh said, who added he was present during the sessions.
On another occasion, Glitter told them they could not sleep with him, but "the girls explained to him that in Vietnamese families, the father, the mother and the children sleep in one bed," Kinh told the AP.
Glitter also told police he went swimming with several girls in his outdoor pool, but denied inappropriate behavior, his attorney said.
"He said he thinks they are like his grandchildren," Kinh said.
Police have interviewed six females, from 11 to 23 years of age, who alleged they had sex with Glitter.
Vietnam's penalties for sexual contact with a juvenile vary depending on the charge. The maximum punishment for child rape is death by firing squad, and police have said sex with a child under 13 is considered rape.
Police officials have said they think it's possible their investigation will be concluded before the three months is over. Once that happens, they will recommend to prosecutors what to charge Glitter with in court.
On Thursday, Foreign Ministry spokesman Le Dung said the investigation into Glitter's case "has been conducted in accordance with Vietnamese laws." The former rocker has had regular access to British consular officials, Dung said.
Glitter won fame as a flamboyant "glam rocker" in the 1970s. He is perhaps best known for Rock and Roll (Part 2), still often played at sporting events.
He was convicted in Britain in 1999 of possessing child pornography and served half of a four-month jail term. He later went to Cambodia and was permanently expelled in 2002, but Cambodian officials did not specify any crime or file charges.

Trial Opens Gary Glitter in Vietnam
Wednesday, March 1, 2006 10:33 PM EST
The Associated Press
By TINI TRAN
VUNG TAU, Vietnam (AP) ? The trial of former British rocker Gary Glitter opened Thursday on charges that he molested two underaged Vietnamese girls at a seaside rental home in southern Vietnam.
The former glam rocker has been accused of kissing, fondling and committing other obscene acts with a 10-year-old and an 11-year-old at his residence in the southern port city of Vung Tau last year. He has denied the allegations.
Glitter, 61, whose real name is Paul Francis Gadd, wore black pants, shirt and cap as police escorted him through a scrum of reporters Thursday morning into the yellow concrete courthouse in Ba Ria-Vung Tau province.
Glitter held up two fingers in a victory sign and said only one word: "Innocent."
The trial is closed to the public but the verdict will be read publicly on Friday. He faces three to seven years in prison if convicted.
The former rocker has said he was teaching the girls English at his home and considered them "like his grandchildren."
Glitter, who hit his musical peak in the 1970s, had hits with "Leader of the Gang" and "Do You Wanna Touch" but is perhaps best known for his crowd-pleasing rock anthem "Rock and Roll (Part 2)," which is still played at sporting events.
His fall from grace began with a conviction in Britain in 1999 for possessing child pornography. He served half of a four-month jail term. He later went to Cambodia and in 2002 was expelled from that country, but Cambodian officials did not specify any crime or file charges.

Thanks for the link Captain !!! He won't think about anything though. He was busted in Britian, busted in Cambodia and thrown out of the country and now he's in prison in Vietnam. You would figure if he was honestly sorry about what he was doing in the first place, he would have learned his lesson in Britain where he first went to jail and was publicly humiliated. I don't feel sorry for him. Every one makes a **** up of their lives at one point or another. Some make bigger ones than others but if a lesson is learned from that mistake, then you're a better person because of it. If you continue to make the same mistakes time and time again, then you're not really sorry for your actions. The Wibster gets down from his soap box....

Gary Glitter loses appeal in Vietnam
By Times Online and agencies
Gary Glitter lost his appeal against a three-year sentence for molesting two young girls in Vietnam today.
The former glam rock singer, real name Paul Gadd, had his conviction upheld at a one-day, closed hearing at the People?s Supreme Court of Appeals in Ho Chi Minh City.
The court "rejects the appeal of the accused and sentences him to three years in prison for obscene acts with children," said Truong Vinh Thuy, one of three judges who heard the singer's appeal.
Glitter has always denied molesting the two girls, one aged 10, the other aged 11, for which he was convicted in March and maintains he is the victim of a conspiracy of British tabloid newspapers.
His lawyer, Le Thanh Kinh, told journalists today that he intended to argue that Glitter had suffered a "plot against him" by the press and that Vietnamese prosecutors had refused to listen to his side of the story.
Glitter has admitted that one of the girls slept in his room because she was "afraid of ghosts" but insisted that he considered them both like grandchildren. The singer was arrested in Ho Chi Minh City last November trying to board a flight to Bangkok.
Leaving court today, dressed in black and wearing sunglasses, Glitter shouted to waiting journalists: "There was no defence allowed!" Earlier today, he had announced his intention of returning to England if his conviction was quashed.
Glitter, the first foreigner to be tried for sex offences in post-war Vietnam, shot to fame in 1972 with the off-beat glam hit Rock 'n' Roll (Parts 1 and 2). Although just 28, he had been perfoming in clubs for more than 15 years.
Further hits ? The Leader of the Gang and Do you wanna touch me ? took Glitter to the top of the charts in Britain and America and made him monarch of the glam rock wave. But by 1975, despite selling 20 million records, he was bankrupt.
In 1998, after a brief but promising comeback, Glitter returned to the public eye when he was charged with possessing child pornography on his computer.
In 1999, he served two months of a four-month sentence at Horfield Prison in Bristol for the "hardcore, sick and degrading" images. The pictures were discovered when he took his computer in to be repaired.
