There must be a great number of us here that work in some store or other. I work in electronics retail, although not for much longer, can't wait to try my hand at something else :)

ever been tempted to say something to a customer which you know is a line from AYBS ?

I work in a psychiatric hospital, which honestly is nothing like a store....but I'll be damned because most days I feel like I'm in a live AYBS episode! The staff are as entertaining as my patients.

"I'm free" and "I'm neither one way nor the other" have come out of my mouth a few times...

When asked if I'm free, I always reply with "I'm free" like Mr. Humphries. Always gets a smile from the older generation but some of the younger ones just look at me like I'm gay !

Also when I've sold a customer a cable I've said "Don't worry if you find the cable too long sir, you'll find it will ride down with wear"

Always gets a laugh that one :)

I have worked my fair share of retail, but none of it in the clothing trade. I haven't yet found a good AYBS? line that fits my area.

Several times I've asked co-workers "___________, are yor free?" but they just look at me odd. None of them know the show.

A few months ago, I had a customer pay by credit card. When she handed the card over, I noticed her last name was Peacock. I couldn't help exclaiming "Peacock!" before I realized doing so was rather rude and unrelated to anything happening at the time.

She was not amused. She thought I was making fun of her last name. All I could do was say, "Sorry, I...." and then I return her card.

I worked in retail for many years untill I got married for the third ,and last, time. I had a lot of very pleasant customers and many downright mean people too.

During the summer I work at a tourist information centre, which is basically a shop too. We sell maps (mainly for cycling and walking), some books on the history of our town, and tickets for some shows. In my experience there tend to be two kinds of customers: those who will pay for anything, and those who will not pay for anything at all. You get those who are pleasantly surprised that they can have a map of town for free, and those who are interested in a cycling map, but when they hear that they'll have to pay for it you can see them trying to get out of a potentially embarrassing situation: 'Er... yes... but... so these cycling routes, there are signs pointing us in the right direction? Then... we don't need the map.' It's kind of fun watching them look for escape in case I were to grab them and not let go until they've bought the map :emotlol:

I work as a library clerk, which involves working behind a counter. I answer the phone in a deeper than normal voice, and have to deal with all sorts of people who claim to know the higher ups. I have to bite my tongue to keep from telling people to get stuffed.
