Wibbies Title: The Crown vs Mrs. Slocombe
Season: 1
Eppy: 3
Year: 1992
Show Run: 3
*********************************************
The staff is readying for the court case of Mrs. Slocombe who is no stranger to the law. While the court drama seems to rival that of the OJ trial, it seems that Mr. Moulterd comes to Mrs. Slocombe's rescue and saves the day.
Now we all have seen this eppy so let's discuss it !!!

This is my favorite episode of AYBS?A! The trial is hilarious, especially Mrs. Slocombe fainting and the "character" witnesses.

seeing mr. rumbold in his "leathers" and then the judge thinking he is an over the hill beatnik.

A great episode. This episode proved to me that you can take the staff out of the store and put them in a new location/situation and still write a good show. One of the classic moments is when the court asks for the bird to be hung in the cellar and Mrs. Slocombe faints. I think it's also heartwarming to see Mr. Multerd come to Mrs. Slocombe's rescue.

I like this eppy very much. I love Miss Brahms being up on the stand and making a **** up of it.
The whole Rumbold being called a beatnik is hilarious !!

How did Mr. Moultered know that the man was stealing the birds on Sir Roberts land? i know he has lived in that area for a long time but i was just wondering???

This is my favorite eppy also. Have always assumed Mr. Moulterd knew about the poaching because that's what he would have been doing on Sir Robert's land. I think it was an educated guess and he happened to be correct.

The first time I saw Rumbold in his leathers, I though to myself "How many cows did that outfit kill!" just as Miss Brahms said, "Crikey! He's wearing a whole cow!"
I wonder if that jacket is lurking in the bowels of the BBC costumery somewhere?

I've often wondered about this because in the show, Joe doesn't come out of the hedge with a dead pheasant... He comes out zipping his fly!
There is no evidence of him poaching at all! I think the judges were looking for a reason to dismiss the case, because Joe is not arrested for poaching neither.
I'm also hoping Moulterd bought the pheasant at the market when he sold the pigs and didn't poach it!

Well him showing a "bird" of any kind was enough for a dismissal.

Joe was a rather shifty sort who was probably known for doing things like poaching.
Maurice was known for his bribes. Remember how he bribed Constable Percy in the Pub Fight episode.
Sir Robert obviously was the big mucky-muck of the greater Great Tender area. Maurice probably was showing Sir Robert one of his own pheasents, which spared him the trouble of catching it himself, and he and the the other magistrates probably had a nice dinner out of it.

Two things struck me the last time I watched this one:
1.) The courtroom looked like an expensive set to make for one episode. I wonder if they did it on site in a real courtroom.
2.) As successful as this episode was, they should have trumped up another charge against one of the staff to do another courtroom episode.
[I smell a fanscript in the future about the trial of the sheep stealing and phone line cutting from the last episode!]

:emotlol: I'd love to see that episode! Wonder how many of the locals could be brought up on those charges? Could be a full courtroom.

 Would they call the sheep to the witness box?
I can hear the dramatic music as the barrister demands from the sheep, "Who turned you!" Eyes move shiftily from left to right as the camera switches between cast members. Mr. Humphries hides his head behind his jacket lapel. The camera turns to the sheep standing on its hind legs in the witness box. He raises a cloven hoof to point out... ....(dum - dum - duh!)... ...Mr. Moulterd! "Baaaaaaaaaah!"
(Loud gasps from the gallery)
Mr. Moulterd replies, "That's a lie! All I did was give 'im a litl' prick!"
Sir Robert: "You did what?!?"
Moulterd: "I gave him a prick with my animal syringe. Its to vacation 'em from the anthrax. It was Mr. 'umphries gave 'im the poke!"
The barrister: "Is this true?"
Mr. Humphries: "It was just a little one."
(Gasps all around)
Mr. Humphries: "A poke in the shoulder!"
(In unison, everyone exclaims "Huh?")
Mr .Humphries: " ...With my finger!!! I was just checking the quality of the wool."
Mr. Moulterd: "I was talkin' 'bout the way you checked 'is temperature!"
Mr. Humphries angrily: "I checked it the same way my mother used to check mine! Nothing more!"
Sir Robert: "I think we all have heard more than we need to know! Everyone get out! Case dismissed!"

True
This is one of my favourite eppys along with the cricket match and the petrified pussy. There were some great scenes and quotes, from Mrs Slocombes outfit to Captain Peacock on the motorbike.

I really enjoyed Grace and Favor because it got them out of the store and introduced some new characters. This episode was hilarious!
"Blimey, he's wearing a whole cow!"
"Shirly Brahms your grace" (winks and recieves a response from the wrong judge).
"Hang the bird in the cellar" (Mrs. Slocombe faints) :D
