Of course they didn't do as many episodes as we would want, and there were many stories they could have done, but one thing about Millstone Manor Hotel has made me wonder:

Could they have run a successful hotel without hiring more staff? For how long?:?

I think they could have managed Millstone Manor as a moneymaking venture, but given their age, they needed to hire staff to run it. And without enough revenue to hire staff, how long could that crew 'muck in' until the staff problem was solved? How long could they last going it alone? Sooner or later, wouldn't they want to 'cop the lolly' and retire fully?

I think it could have been run a little while longer but new staff would have had to been hired. I think there would have been a lot of money in it.

I'd love to spend a weekend there, if our beloved staff members were running the place.

Honestly, there didn't look to be alot of capacity in the hotel, so I think they could have kept going as they were. Plus, it seemed like guests would not be coming and going every day so plenty of time to rest up.

I'm sure they could have run a successful hotel since there are always people that want to escape the city life!

I think they could have managed fine without hiring additional staff if they had advertised the Manor to Americans like this:

Come to the English Countryside and experience first hand hand how to run a genuine English Manor. Courses include: 1) Chambermaid 101 2) Tending bar 3) How to prepare a full English Breakfast 4) Slopping pigs, milking cows, and collecting eggs.....

I think we have to suspend disbelief re Millstone Manor. That kitchen, not to mention Mavis with muck all over her, would never pass health and safety inspections.

I just gloss over the ridiculousness of the whole premise and just enjoy the characters and situations.

I don't know if conditions were really that bad. The mice seemed healthy!

That's what I thought too. However, if the hotel got increasingly popular, to the point where they had guests pretty much all the time, they would have had to hire some more staff.

Thank you! I thought I was the only person who noticed that! If Mavis worked in my hotel, she would have to be hosed off before I'd let her anywhere near the kitchen.

I've thought about hosing down Mavis too, but for entirely different reasons! ;):D

Captain Joe I couldn't help but think of you and Mavis together in the barn. Mavis would be the one with the high pressure washer and you'd be washed up.

Maybe get in a quick Teasle(sp?) and then some to-ing and fro-ing? oh wait! that was ME and Mavis.

I think that the Manor did better than the Department. How many times in AYBS did they have meetings because sales were down? In G&F it was mentioned that they were keeping their heads above water. The Staff were better at running a hotel than at being salespeople.
