Hi all,

I had a trip to the dentist the other day, and that got me thinking about the 'AYBS' cast members' teeth...

John Inman's gap in his front teeth was part of his cheeky character and charm (and was slightly Madonna-esque). Poor Nicholas Smith wasn't exactly first in the queue when it came to dishing out good teeth, and neither was Wendy come to think of it...

So, who do you think had the best set of gnashers?

:) I love this idea for a topic!

I always loved the individual appearence of JI and NS's teeth, and the references to them; when Mr Spooner says things like "I wonder why she didn't mention the gap at the front". They were both good sports.

Of course, Mr Grainger's teeth have to be my favourite; 50,000 miles on the clock, have done Churchill, and can be removed if they chatter excessively!

Grainger would have had the best set of teeth even if they weren't real.

Mollie also had very nice teeth and I think they were her own.

Greg, I'm surprised you didn't comment on YMG's nurse's teeth. I thought for sure they would have come to mind the moment you read this thread. :D

Definitely Nurse Vivienne. She could've nibbled on my ear anytime. ;)

I thought Miss Brahms' teeth were already a bit "Bucky" without the joke teeth in that episode. However, teeth are pretty far down the list when it comes to things I notice about Miss Brahms!

Mr. Lucas seemed to have a nice smile...

Erik she would have taken the side of your head of with those teeth.
I bet that horse is still wondering who got it's teeth.
My God, if Vivienne Johnson were to be in Africa she would probably get hunted down and killed for those tusk she carries in her mouth.
I heard they were going to do a remake of JAWS and they are using her head on the movie poster going after the swimmer.
She is the walrus ... goo goo gajoob.
Last time she was invited to a Halloween party and went bobbing for apples, she ate the tub by accident.

I'm having visions of a new Fanfic...with Greg sitting in a dentist's office waiting room, and in walks Nurse Vivienne, who sits down next to him. "Hey, didn't I see you at Grace Brother's," Greg says while blushing....

That's a curious question. Mr. Humphreys teeth made it hard for me to watch him; wouldn't the National Health Care System of the UK fix it for him?

Good question, Green Man; There would certainly have been the option for NHS dental treatment, but I think (especially given the joke-references in the show) that whilst Mr Humphries may have been sensitive to any direct attention being drawn to it, he was happy to integrate it as part of his appearance; certainly JI himself was happy to poke fun at his dental anomoly.

As a personal preference, I quite like this quirk of JI's and would actually miss it if it wasn't there :)

This is how I feel about it too. Not just Humphries' teeth, but all of the characters' teeth, and their other physical "flaws", such as Rumbold's "jug ears".

Actually, one of the many things I really like about AYBS is how the characters all look like "real" people...they're not ugly, but they don't look abnormally thin/beautiful/made-up/etc. :)

Back to the teeth - my dad has teeth that actually remind me a LOT of Inman's. He's got naturally gappy teeth (especially between the front two), and his one front tooth is slightly crooked from getting accidentally hit in the mouth when he was about 6 years old. My last boyfriend also has teeth that are considered slightly "funny" looking (his bottom teeth are slightly crooked). I only have straight teeth because, like a lot of kids, I wore braces for years, and had a couple of oral surgeries. So I'm not at all bothered by the staff of AYBS having funny teeth. :D

I have heard that British Dentistry is frightfull.

I am also inclined to think that the Brits might be a little afraid of Dentists.

What exactly happened to Inman that his front incisor got like that? I've caught myself staring at his mouth several times and wondering about it. Did his teeth just grow in like that? Did he get into a fight when he was a kid?

Many people have a gap between their teeth. It just happens that way. The two front teeth come in narrow and long and sometimes are spaced apart.

I suppose unless anyone can find an interview where Imman mentions getting into a childhood brawl or something, we can assume it's just how his teeth naturally grew in. Lots of people have teeth that grow in at funny angles, but these days they're usually fixed at a dentists office early on in life.

Very true. Mine might have looked a bit like that had I not worn orthodontic braces when I was a teenager. And dental care in Britain is not really that great, especially back when he was a boy. *shrug* I've seen so many gaps like that it doesn't really surprise me but his is so pronounced that I wondered (and still do). Looking at Bannister's mouth, he has a slight gap in his lower incisors as well. :? I must have an oral fixation these days...:D
