View Full Version : A Change .....

Oh, That DOES Suit Madam!

Other than the obvious ones of Mr. Lucas leaving, crummy cast changes and Old Mr. Grace, what 5 items would YOU have changed about the show/plot/characters?

Here's my list:

1. Miss Belfridge would have been hired on sooner.
2. A few storylines taking place outside the store would have been nice.
3. Changing departments (our staff working in sporting goods, maybe) more than once in the series.
4. Perhaps a flashback episode?
5. A reunion show in which the staff reunites because the Grace Brothers building is in danger of being torn down or something. *I wasn't so wild about AYBSA*

1. An episode where Mr. Lucas takes Rumbold's job
2. A real Actress playing Mr. Humphries mother, instead of John in drag
3. Keep Miss Brahms wit from the earlier eppy's later on in the series instead of turning her into an airhead
4. More episodes involving Doremy Vernon (Personally thought she was hilarious)
5. Fewer song/dance eppy's. German week was great...but others not so much.

I accidentally merged the two "A Change Is As Good As A Rest" threads not realizing that the one has nothing to do with the other so I changed the title a bit to save from further confusion.

Sorry for the inconvience ...

an episode where mr. grace changes the rules slightly such as telling captain peacock not to be so picky if someone is 1 minute late for work. and giving the staff 20 minutes instead of 15.

i would have liked to have seen an actress playing mr. humphries mom -http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/41400000/jpg/_41400226_whitfield203bbc.jpg June Whitfield from AbFab?

I wish they would have filmed an episode that revolved around the infamous store Christmas party. That's why I wrote the fanfic about it last year; I needed some closure in those regards.

Greg, I can see it now: you're in the store. You find the bodies of Mr. Grossman, Mr. Klein, and OMG. You start walking through the store quietly. The electricity is not working, so you have to use a candle to light your way. You come across Miss Belfridge, who is very frightened. With her on your arm, you look for a safe way out. You head down the stairs, when all of a sudden Mr. Harmon comes at you with a knife. What a cult B-movie that would be. We could call it "Are You Being Interred?"

I would have:

1. Paid James Hayter more money to stay on, so he could've told the people at Kipling's Cakes to "get knotted."

2. Written at least one episode centered on Miss Brahms - and kept her the streetwise character of the earlier series, instead of making her a ditz.

3. Convinced Moira Foot to stay on as Rumbold's permanent secretary - and when Candy came along, had her challenge Moira to a wrestling match with the prize being her job. :brow:

4. Kept the show more of an ensemble, instead of "The John and Mollie Show."

1.Not making Miss Brahms a ditz but having her stay the way she was......
2. I liked Miora Foot as Jug Ears secretary.....
3. Stopped changing Mr. Lucas replacement ( it would have been nice if we just could have kept Mr. Lucas).
4. Too many Mr. Grace........
5. Capt. Peacock getting caught cheating

1. Get them out of the store more
2. Get them out of their uniforms more (and get your minds out of the gutter ;) I'm talking in civilian/fancy dress/any other clothing but their uniforms)
3. If they developed Miss Belfridge's character more.
4. I agree with Erik: not focus so much on "John and Mollie", but more equal time for everyone.
5. A "Boxing Day" themed episode where the roles are reversed and the junior staff rule the roost for one day.

1. I would have made Mr. Rumbold more intelligent. His total stupidity wore thin. He could have been a smart guy who protected the staff from the whims and follies of the Grace Brothers.
2. I liked Mr. Warpole from Sporting Goods. I would have liked to see a further storyline where Mrs. Slocombe, Miss Brahms, and Mr. Humphries vyed for his affections.
3. For that matter, I wish they had more interaction with other departments. It would have provided opportunities for more guest stars. I could also envision competition from other departments like they had with the canteen staff.
4. I always wondered what their home life was like. Couldn't they have done an episode or two at Mr. Humphries' place? I could see them visiting him when sick and Miss Brahms going through his bathroom cabinet, Peacock snooping into his closet, Mr. Lucas hitting on his hot next door neighbor. I'm fascinated!
5. Okay it is just like #4, but what was Mr. Grace's place like? Or how about an episode on his yacht?

Miss Belfridge and I are the killers and the last one we "off" is Harman but make it look like he was the one doing the killing all along and we had to kill him self defense. With Miss Belfidge and I there would have to be a lot of gratuitous nudity.

Well I wouldn't want to run the risk of being called a "sexist" so I thought it would be a good idea if I did a few nude scenes with her. You know .. just so she wouldn't be so emabarrassed by the whole situation. And let's face it ... I do have very nice legs.

Would have liked to have seen more people from the staff's homelife come by the store. Mr. Humphries had numerous friends (a videographer, a dance instructor - to mention only two) involved in plots and even had his next door neighbor and her daughter in the store on one occasion. What about the rest of the staff? Barring spouses, who of course we saw in various incarnations, how about Mrs. Axelby stopping by to buy a corset? Or one of Mr. Lucas's girlfriends come by to tell him off? Or one of the men Miss Brahms met in a disco come by to chat her up? Or one of Captain Peacock's neighbors stopping by to tell him some young woman was on his doorstep hammering on the door, creating a disturbance, and yelling for him to come out of the house and face her while Mrs. Peacock yelled threats out a bedroom window? The possibilities are endless.........

Greg WibblyWobbly

How about one of Lucas's girlfriends come by to tell him she'll be late for their date tonight and here she and Humphries know each other. Then when she's leaving Humphries says says something llike "She much more happy since the operation."

Outside the store, there was also the play where Mrs. Slocoumbe had the hots for Mr. Humphries.

I would have loved to have seen a Christmas party eppy.

They should have kept Miss Brahms in the shorter version of the uniform skirt.

Moira Foot as the permanent bimbo would have been nice.

Not meaning to put down all the other ideas everyone's posted - there are lots of good ones - but this is the first one that really got me thinking of the possibilities, that really sparked my imagination. Mrs Rumbold is one of the best one-off characters in the series.

Here's a thought. Young Mr Grace retires and hires Mrs Rumbold to be overall store manager in his place, ie. she is Rumbold's boss! I can just see her and Mrs Slocombe in conflict. It would be great! Obviously too with "Cuthbert"... It would really have added something fresh and funny to the last two years.

Good one Bliss Girl :)

Rumbold would have to really work hard with his Mrs in charge. Changes would abound. The first one would be his secretary. Someone like Miss Comlosi would be his lot. She would be another thorn in his side.

Well with Mrs. Rumbold in charge I think you're sympathies would lie with Cuthbert. He would no longer be the "idiot" figure. The Mrs would take over that and Cuthbert would become the underdog.

Dean

yes you're right, I think it would be great because in essence the way that Nicholas Smith plays Rumbold, he is still a sympathetic character despite all his bad points. It would work.
