Hello Everybody!
This is my first post. I have watched probably all AYBS episodes, most of them repeatedly. But I am still a bit skeptical about AYBS Again.
Anyway, as I only began watching it, can somebody tell me what happens to the wives (kids?) of Rumbold and Cpt. Peacock? Are they ever mentioned?
I also feel a bit sorry about Miss Brahms being an old maid...

Hi Cathy,
Welcome to the board!
I'm not a big fan of AYBSA, either, so it's been a long time since I've seen it. As best I remember, neither Mrs. Peacock nor Mrs. Rumbold are ever mentioned.
Now if you'd like some speculations as to why, you've certainly come to the right place! :D

I think that either Rumbold's or Peacock's wife was supposed to have run off with one of the other heads of department; Mr. Prentiss of Hardware, maybe. My memory's sketchy on that.
I never considered it that bad that Miss Brahms was still single, but I always thought it was pretty sad that she was apparently still a junior on the sales counter when GB finally closed. Especially since she was supposed to be a pretty competent saleswoman.

It is mentioned that Mrs Rumbold went off with Mr Prentess of Hardware. None of the staff ever had children.

Dear Rust,
Mrs. Slocombe is like Wibby.
She wasn't about to retire.
{That might mean that she was old}.
She would rather die either on the job or while still being employed there.
:lucas01:
Ps ..... I guess that this also might be considered picking on Wibby.

Miss Brahms wasn't exactly a bored old maid ;) When the were hanging laundry one day, she dished to Mrs. Slocombe that she had a fling for a few years with a married man, but it had ended.

I always found that a bit disturbing about Miss Brahms and a bit out of character. I could see her having a fling with a single man, but not with a married one.

Maybe the pickings in Catford were slim.

That always creeped me out as well. She was still good looking and could of had her pick of most men, why take someone elses ? Bad writing choice IMO.

Bad writing choice IMO.
It's another example of how much her character changed over the years.

Getting back to Mrs. Peacock and Mrs. Rumbold: they both looked pretty butch. Maybe they (Mr. Prentice notwithstanding) ran off with each other!

I just always assumed Mrs Peacock and Captain Peacock got divorced. After all, he's constantly flirting with Miss Lovelock and very happy about possilby bagging himself a young woman, so I dont think Mrs Peacock died, they just divorced.

That's how I feel, too. She was so pretty when she was young and I always thought she would marry rich and have kids.
But anyway, thanks everyone for the hints.
Incidentally, were there only two series of AYBS Again?
I've also heard about the Australian version of AYBS. Is it available anywhere online to watch?

Yes there were only two series of "Grace and Favour" filmed.
There was an Austrailian version of AYBS? and some of the eppys were up on Youtube for a while till someone cried about them being there and were taken down and you know who you are.

Agreed. Not great, but still fascinating for us fans.

I saw some bloopers, and they gave me shivers. I didn't like those women impersonating Mrs. Slocombe and Miss Brahms, next to the real Mr. Humphries. If they could come up with some original Aussie characters, it could have made sense. But this way, I don't think I would enjoy the show.

I've got a few of the episodes and I've enjoyed them alot.....not for the acting of the "clone" characters, but for how they split up the stories to give Mr H a bigger role.
For example, in the Aussie version of Dear Sexy Knickers:
1. It is Mr H stuck in the elevator with Mrs Crawford (Slocombe), not the Lucas character, and she comments how he didn't try anything....which is hilarious since the reasons why he wouldn't try anything as compared to a Lucas character is quite different.
2. Mrs Crawford comments how Mr H is having trouble selling things (and since WHEN has that been an issue) and is glad he has a customer
3. In this version, the Lucas character (Randal) dictates the sexy knicker note TO Mr H (instead of Lucas writing it), so the upshot of the episode was that Mr H has WRITTEN the note and stands to be in trouble even though he is not the one looking for a date
4. I think the Ms Brahms character in the 2nd season (they changed the actress) is quite stunning.......much more so than Wendy
5. This episode (2nd season 1st eppy) also introduced the new dept manager (Fenwick), who has come over from hardware on a temporary basis......this helps with him being unfamiliar with the "kneeing" of jackets
So overall, I think its fascinating to see another version of the stories....
