Baking bread takes a lot of time, and patience. I am chef, and I rarely bake breads, cakes etc, but I do enjoy making Schraft's old recipe cheese bread once a year or so. Bread has but a few basic ingredients....flour, water, yeast and salt. So you won't be buying many things to make it.. I know bread machines are supposedly quite good, but to me, it's cheating and you may as well just go to a bakery. The whole point of going to the trouble of baking homemade bread is the kneading, rising processes, and actual baking of a free form loaf. The process can be really relaxing and satisfying. Go to The Food network site and I am sure you can score a recipe there. This is a good place for beginners or scaredy-cooks. http://www.foodnetwork.com/

That's an affectionate term of course! I use it when my friends cook for me. They're always scared I won't like what they make...which is silly because I'd eat my own shoe if you melt some cheese on it. There are thousands of basic white bread recipes on the internet I assure you. The basics will not change much from one to the next.

My Ex's sister used to bake bread all of the time.If she culd do it I'm sure Goldie can do it. Wait a minute she was the one with the 142 IQ. Still she left the salt out more than once.

Bread without salt is NASTY stuff! Tasteless. Also...salt is an important ingredient. It keeps the yeast in check so you don't end up with one of those Lucy-Sized Loaves! :o Gotta have the salt!

Soda Bread
Ingredients:
3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 1/2 cups buttermilk
Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Lightly grease and then flour baking sheet.
In large bowl, mix flour, baking soda. Mix in buttermilk to form dough into ball (you may need to add a little more buttermilk). Turn out onto lightly floured surface and knead until dough holds together, about 1 minute. Shape dough into a 6-inch round and place on prepared baking sheet. Cut a 1-inch deep X across top of bread, reaching almost to edges.
Bake until bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on bottom, about 40 minutes. Now, I use a baking stone and my oven has its own personality, so I usually find myself having to go 50 minutes. It's trial and error.
Transfer bread to rack and cool. Serve with real salted butter.

Salted, unsalted, homemade, whatever you like...just as long as you don't defile this bread with margarine :)

Promise Buttery Spread? That's why you had to go to the Laundromat to wash you huge Down Comforter. You shouldn't use your Comforter and a Spread at the same time.

Dear Goldie
Now that you made this post...
I'm going to get my bread machine out and make some raisin bread.
Lucas :D
Ps...My DAD gave me his old bread machine about 4-5 years ago...
He bought a new one.
So that is how I make bread.

As a former baker of bread on a weekly basis I love using my bread machine now! I don't need the amount I use to make so one at a time is great and lot's of variety! I would recommend one to anyone that like's homemade bread, and does not have 6 hour's to make it! No preservatives either! Oh yes butter only!
