I think it's time that we start keeping tabs as to what's happening with the surviving main cast and supporting cast members of Are You Being Served?

First of all, we need a list of who all is currently still living. Most lists consist of the main cast members and very few of the supporting cast. I think we should have one for all the customers as well.

I, for instance, am interested in knowing if anyone knows what ever happened to Doremy Vernon, the actress that played the canteen manageress.

IMDB barely says anything and the only info I can find of her on wikipedia is that she used to be a Tiller Girl (something to do with a dance troupe).

That's a very good idea Sir Humphries!
There's also the nurse (Vivienne Johnson), all the secretaries, and the two Mrs Peacocks (Diana King and Diana Lambert).

I looked up both Dianas, and they've both died.

Diana King, the original, and better Mrs. Peacock died in 1986, and the second Mrs. Peacock, Diana Lambert died in 1995.

This is a great idea to check up on. I'll put me thinking cap on for this one.

Nicholas Smith (Mr Rumbold) recently was in two Wallace & Gromit movies and his latest appearance was as a Vicar in the 'Last of the summer wine'. For all intents and purposes he seems to be pretty much retired.

Trevor Bannister (Mr Lucas) is currently playing a semi-regular character on 'Last of the Summer Wine' called Toby the golf Captain.

Frank Thornton (Capt. Peacock) is a main character on 'Last of the summer wine' playing a character called Truly.

Mike Berry (Bert Spooner) is still recording his own cds and music, his latest was a christmas release called "Hi There Darlin'! Merry Christmas" in 2007. He is also currently attending various music festivals and AYBS related functions.

Candy Davis (the incredibly hot Miss Belfridge) did a little more acting after AYBS up until 1985 after she got divorced and decided to pursue other things, Davis is said to have retired from acting and is now working as a teacher.

Vivienne Johnson unfortunatley I couldn't find to much on her. She did her stint on AYBS as Mr grace's nurse, did a few Carry On appearances (in 2 movies and a few eps of the tv show Carry On Laughing). Then after the 70's and early 80's faded from the screen and hasn't been heard from since. Her last known address for which fans could reach her was:
c/o Barrie Stacey Promotions, Apartment 8, 132 Charing Cross Road, London, WC2H 0LA

Everyone else, who was about 40 or more on the show at the time seem to have retired or passed away, such as both Mrs Peacocks and Mavis Pugh who was in 3 episodes, but best remembered as Lady Weeble Able Smith in the episode Take Over.

Oh and of course Joanna Lumely who did her small memorable roles, we all know she did Ab Fab as the hysterically funny Patsy and is now working with Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders on 'Jam & Jerusalem'.

I saw Nicholas Smith on that episode of 'Last of the summer wine'. He was brilliant. Upon hearing he had to spend the day with all the old men, he said 'I used to bury better!'

If my memory serves me correctly, someone had looked into contacting Doremy Vernon this past spring, and it was clear that she did not want to be contacted regarding AYBS.

According to her IMDb page, Penny Irving is retired and lives in London (and still collects the occasional royalties check from AYBS? and her other work).

As of last year, Moira Foot was living on a farm in southern England with her family. I've just recently won a beautiful 8x10 of her on eBay, and will send it to a friend of mine who has an address for her. I'll also include a fan letter, and will be happy to pass along any response I might get from her.

I decided to create a list based on what I could find on IMDB for those who were not mentioned. However, it wasn't very complete there, so I had to dig into the living status of some of the actors.

I have not included most of the birth dates, but did include the death dates for those that I could find them for.

Due to the length of this list, I decided to break it up into a few posts. I hope someone will make of sticky or file of this somewhere for future reference. It would be nice to add a photo to each profile later to make each person recognizable.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Various Cast Members

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jimmy Mac:

"Warwick" (The Junior)
"Warwick" (Anything You Can Do)
"Warwick" (A Personal Problem)

Status: Deceased. IMDB states that he died in 1984.

----------------------------------------------------------

John D. Collins:

"Doctor" (Is It Catching?)
"Second Waiter" (Closed Circuit)
"Secretary At Number Ten" (Monkey Business)

Status: Living. It says the following on Wikipedia, "...perhaps best known for appearing in the BBC sitcom 'Allo 'Allo! in which he played Flt. Lt. Fairfax, a stranded British airman in occupied France during World War II. He is the actor to have been cast most frequently in writer/producer David Croft's hit sitcoms: a total of six different series and ten characters."

-----------------------------------------------------------

Gordon Kaye:

"Mr. Tomiades" (Do You Take This Man?)
"The Plastic Mac customer" (Mrs. Slocombe, Senior Person)
"Mr. Fortescue" (Closed Curcuit)

Status: Living. IMDB states, "(July 2007) Currently appearing in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia in the stage version of Allo Allo."

-----------------------------------------------------------

Hilary Pritchard:

"Wealthy Client" (Diamonds Are A Man's Best Friend)
"Newlywed Female Customer" (Shoulder To Shoulder)
"The Wedding Hat customer" (No Sale)

Status: Deceased. She died suddenly in 1996 while in her early 50s. I read somewhere that she gave up acting in the 70s to raise a family. She must have wanted to start it up again later, because in 1993, she did voice work as "Princess Yum-Yum" in the "Princess & the Cobbler," but it would be her last listed role on IMDB.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Mavis Pugh:

"Mrs. Claude" (Fifty Years On)
"Lady Weeble-Able-Smith" (Take-Over)
"Roger's Mistress" (The Club)

Status: Deceased. She died in 2006.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Diana Lambert:

"The Six-Pound Fox customer" (Fifty Years On)
"Mrs. Peacock" (Grounds For Divorce)
"Mrs. Peacock" (Friends and Neighbors)

Status: Deceased. She died in 1995. Someone on IMDB has goofed. They listed a new role for her in 2008, and to my knowledge, corpses don't do much acting...

----------------------------------------------------------

Tony Sympson:

"Claude" (Fifty Years On)
"Mr. Webster" (The Junior)
"Mr. Wagstaff" (Conduct Unbecoming)

Status: Deceased. He died in 1983, probably not very long after his appearance as Mr. Wagstaff.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Keith Hodiak:

"Seymour" (Gambling Fever)
"Seymour" (The Night Club)
"Seymour" (The Pop Star)

Status: Living. His last known appearance was briefly in EastEnders in 1992, but he hasn't appeared on TV since.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Diana King:

"Mrs. Peacock" (Oh What A Tangled Web)
"Mrs. Peacock" (A Personal Problem)
"Mrs. Peacock" (The Sweet Smell of Success)

Status: Deceased. She died in 1986 from cancer.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Moira Foot:

"Miss Thorpe" (German Week)
"Miss Thorpe" (Shoulder to Shoulder)
"Miss Thorpe" (New Look)

Status: Living. Her last listed role on IMDB was in "'Allo, 'Allo" in 1988.

----------------------------------------------------------

Lee Richards:

"Unknown role" (The Club)
"Unknown role" (Heir Apparent)
"Unknown role" (The Sweet Smell of Success)
"Unknown role" (Friends and Neighbors)

Status: Unknown. I am assuming she is alive. Her last role on IMDB was uncredited as a barmaid in 2007, and 1993 before that. But her roles on AYBS? were not defined. She was just listed as other cast.

----------------------------------------------------------

Raymond Bowers:

"Sweater customer" (Mrs. Slocombe Expects)
"Mr. Crawford" (It Pays To Advertise)
"Roger's Master" (The Club)
"The Shrunken Sock customer" (The Hero)
"Grace Brothers Hairdresser" (uncredited - Are You Being Served? The Movie)

Status: Unknown. I have no idea if he is still living or not. Other than on IMDB, I can find nothing else on him. He was one of my favorite extra characters on the show, so I hope someone knows about him. His last IMDB role listing was in 2003.

----------------------------------------------------------

Louise Burton:

"Virginia Edwards" (Sit Out)
"Virginia Edwards" (Closed Circuit)
"Virginia Edwards" (The Erotic Dreams of Mrs. Slocombe)
"Virginia Edwards" (Roots?)

Status: Living. IMDB lists her as living. She married Alan Whitehead, drummer from Marmalade. Her last role appears to have been on AYBS?.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Stephanie Reeve (Gathercole):

"Mr. Rumbold's Secretary" -

(Pilot)
(Our Figures Are Slipping)
(Camping In)
(Diamonds Are A Man's Best Friend)
(Big Brother)

Status: Unknown. Wikipedia says this, "Reeve is a native of Croydon; she became a teacher after giving up acting." ABYS? was her only acting role according to IMDB.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Debbie Linden:

"Old Mr. Grace's Secretary" -

(Is It Catching?)
(A Personal Problem)
(Front Page Story)
(Sit Out)
(Heir Apparent)

Status: Deceased. She died in 1997 of a Heorin overdose.

----------------------------------------------------------

Pat Astley:

"Mr. Grace's Nurse" - uncredited

(The Father Christmas Affair)
(Mrs. Slocombe Expects)
(A Change Is As Good As A Rest)
(Founder's Day)
(The Old Order Changes)
(Take-Over)
(It Pays To Advertise)

Status: Unknown. There is a deleted entry on wikipedia which says pretty much the same thing as the mini-biography on IMDB. It's somewhat interesting. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0040030/bio

-----------------------------------------------------------

Hilda Fenemore:

"Elsie" (The Clock)
"Elsie" (Cold Comfort)
"Daphne" (Cold Store)
"Ivy" (No Sale)
"Ivy" (Mrs. Slocombe Expects)
"Ivy" (By Appointment)
"Ivy" (The Junior)
"Ivy" (The Punch and Judy Affair

Status: Deceased. She died in 2004.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Freddie Wiles:

"Goddard" - Uncredited

(16 episodes)

Status: Deceased. He died in 1983.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Penny Irving:

"Miss Bakewell" -

(22 Episodes)

Status: Living. Wikipedia says that she is now retired from showbusiness and lives in London. Her last role was in Hi-de-Hi! in 1981.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Vivienne Johnson:

"Mr. Grace's Nurse" -

(22 Episodes)

Status: Living... Not much seems to be known about her. It would appear that her main work was done in the 1970s and she may now have retired from the screen altogether.

-----------------------------------------------------------

That's it for part two of my listing. A part three will come later. It will be comprised of individual actors that had generally only one role in a single episode during the show's run.

According to Wikipedia's article on "The Princess and the Cobbler,"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Thief_and_the_Cobbler

work on the film was started in 1964 (!) but for various financial and legal reasons, the film wasn't released until 1993. As Hilary originally voiced the female lead, it's reasonable to assume that her contributions were made much nearer to 1964 than to 1993.

And to add insult to injury: the version that was finally released, had her voice replaced by that of another actress!

Here is what I have for other cast members from seasons 1 -3 of Are You Being Served?

------------------------------------------------------------------
Series 1 Extra Cast

------------------------------------------------------------------

Derek Smith:

"28" Inside Leg" - (Dear Sexy Knickers)

Status: Living. He seems to have played a lot of small roles. His last role was that of a Doorman in a "Doctor Who" episode in 1997.

Coincidentally, Derek Smith is ALSO the name of a real pianist. The character on the show made movements like he was a piano player when holding up his arms and Mr. Lucas even said, "People don't often stand like that, sir. Not unless you are a midget pianist."

------------------------------------------------------------------

Peter Needham:

"The Returned Glen-Check Suit" (Our Figures Are Slipping)

Status: Living. His last role was that of an old man in an episode of a TV show called "The Line of Beauty" in 2006.

------------------------------------------------------------------

James Copeland:

"The Scottish Customer" (Camping In)

Status: Living. His last role was that of a jailer in a movie called "A Rage In Harlem" in 1991.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Pamela Manson:

"The Large Brim with Fruit" (Camping In)

Status: Deceased. She died in 1988.

------------------------------------------------------------------

David Rowlands:

"The Man with the Large Bra" (Camping In)

Status: Unknown. IMDB has no birth or death dates. His last role was that of a doctor in "'Allo 'Allo!" in 1992.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Colin Bean:

"The Leatherette Gloves" (Camping In)

Status: Deceased. He died on 20 Jun 2009.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Margaret Flint:

"First Customer" (His and Hers)

Status: Deceased. She died in 1993.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Evan Ross:

"Second Customer" (His and Hers)

Status: Unknown. His last role was that of a Butler in a movie called "The Dress" in 1984.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Elizabeth Larner:

"Sweater Customer" (Diamonds Are A Man's Best Friend)

Status: Living...... IMDB says she was born in 1931 and lists no death date. Her last roles were in TV shows, "Triangle" and "The Two Ronnies" in 1981.

"Triangle" was actually mentioned by Mrs. Slocombe in "Is It Catching?".

------------------------------------------------------------------

Janet Davies:

"The Outsize Dress" (Diamonds Are A Man's Best Friend)

Status: Deceased. She died in 1986.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Vicki Woolf:

"Mr. Humphries' Friend" (Diamonds Are A Man's Best Friend)

Status: Living..... IMDB says she was born in 1945. Her last role was that of a "Woman in Flat" in a TV show called "Minder" in 1979.

------------------------------------------------------------------
Series 2 Extra Cast

------------------------------------------------------------------

John Ringham:

"The Check Jacket" (The Clock)

Status: Deceased. He died on 20 Oct 2008. He appears to have had A LOT of roles... and no kidding.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Dorothy Wayne:

"The Bridal Veil" (The Clock)

Status: ??Mystery?? This one is distinctively odd. Her only entry on IMDB is that which she had in Are You Being Served? No birth or death date is listed, nor is any other info. Anyone know anything about her?

------------------------------------------------------------------

Pearl Hackney:

"Mrs. Grainger" (The Clock)

Status: Living. She was born on 28 Oct 1916 and is still with us. She has had a number of roles and is the ex-mother-in-law of Anthony Hopkins.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Avril Fane:

"Miss Trixie" (The Clock)

Status: Unknown. I am leaning towards deceased on this one. AYBS? was her last role in 1974 and nothing seems to be known of her since. Before then she only had 3 other roles. I can find no birth or death dates anywhere.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Barbara & Dorothy Loynes:

"Trixie Trio Members" (The Clock)

Status: ??Mystery?? I am in the same boat with this one as I was with Dorothy Wayne. Nothing is known about them and their only role on IMDB was on AYBS?.

We have somewhere on the board here her doing an interview from not too long ago.

Not anymore here since I remember posting that and it doesn't come up when I search for it. Probably got deleted during one of the forum cleanups. If it *is* here-please provide the link for everyone here. Thanks!

I added the link to Eva's forum where it'll have a permanent home-at least until the server removes the page. Thank goodness I have a backup of all the links-saves me a lot of time having to look it up again since that one was not an easy one to find.

I'm sorry to hear this, as Mr. Bowness was one of the three AYBS? actors I've had a chance to meet in person. (The others being John Inman and Carol Cleveland.) I remember he told me that he'd greatly enjoyed both of his appearances on the show.

Hello

I'm new to the board, and came across this thread whilst trying to research some contact information for some of the secretaries/nurses...

I thought I would add some of my own thoughts about current status:

Nicholas Smith - still working but not asked to do so very often!
Vivienne Johnson – according to Richard Webber’s book wants to get back into acting. Apparently present at a 50th anniversary Carry On event last year (which I also attended – but didn’t see her!)
Doremy Vernon – attended John Inman’s memorial service and a plaque unveiling in his memory last year. Was quite happy to discuss AYBS at both events. I am very surprised about what I read elsewhere in this forum about her.
Taryn Kay – still working, did a part in an episode of Frost a few years back
Felix Bowness – sadly died earlier this week aged 87
Stuart Sherwin – still alive, attended a 40th anniversary Dads Army lunch last year, but has suffered a stroke so finds movement difficult. Cannot write, should anyone be thinking of writing to him (he rubber stamps autographs now)
Gordon Peters – still working, has a website www.gordonpeters.net (http://www.gordonpeters.net/). Tours in one-man shows a lot. A good friend of mine.
Michael Sharvell Martin – still working, often in panto at Windsor. Toured in a comedy “See How They Run” last year
Jeffrey Holland – still working, just about to open in the Menier Chocolate Factory’s production of Victoria Wood’s Talent.
Michael Knowles – still working, regular supporter of Croft/Perry/Lloyd charity events.
John Clegg – ditto
John D Collins – still working. Did a 12 month stint on The Mousetrap in the <ST1:pWest End </ST1:precently. Another friend of mine.
Gorden Kaye – also still working, tours in comedies a lot.
Mavis Pugh – was married to John Clegg
Therese McMurray – married to Donald Hewlett. Both still living
Pamela Cundell -still alive, someone I see very regularly at charity lunches.
John Bardon – still acting, but had a bad stroke which severely impairs his mobility and speech. Very sad.

Jan Holden (A Bliss Girl) Pantyhose returned to Mr. Humphries, etc.

There are still times when I am watching and forget that Mollie, Wendy and John are gone....when it comes back I get a little weepy all over again, they are like family!

Wow, it's terrific that Mrs. Grangier is still alive at 93. :D

I'm afraid that is not the case. Pearl Hackney died Sept 18th, 2009.

Season 6 Extra Cast<o></o>

----------------------------------------------------------------

Joy Harington:

"Lady Customer" - (By Appointment)

Status: Deceased. She was born in 1914 and died in 1991. She appears to have been an actress, writer, producer, script editor, and director during her career.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Colin Ward-Lewis:

"Radio Voice" - (By Appointment)

Status: Living??? I could not find a birth or death date, but I did find the following info about him.

"Colin was a BBC TV announcer from February 1965 until April 1975 and during the 1980s and 1990s filled various roles within the presentation department, including director, assistant producer, and editor. He even returned briefly to the announcer's microphone in 1989 as holiday cover. He was the voice of the popular game show 'The Generation Game' - "and on the conveyor belt tonight we have...".

Colin now runs his own theatre company based on the<st1> Costa Del Sol</st1><st1:country-region><st1> in Spain</st1></st1:country-region>."

----------------------------------------------------------------

Dominique Don:

"Female Flexibra Customer" - (The Club)

Status: Living. She was apparently born sometime in 1944 in <st1><st1:city>Paris</st1:city>, <st1:country-region>France</st1:country-region></st1>, but Are You Being Served seems to have been her last role. She only had a handful before that.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Tony Brothers / Anthony Chamberlaine Brothers:

"Male Flexibra Customer" - (The Club)

Status: Living??? I couldn't find much on him, but I did find a website with an interesting note. Here is a possible picture of him and some interesting info.

<!--[if gte vml 1]><v:shapetype id="_x0000_t75" coordsize="21600,21600" o:spt="75" o:preferrelative="t" path="m@4@5l@4@11@9@11@9@5xe" filled="f" stroked="f"> <v:stroke joinstyle="miter"/> <v:formulas> <v:f eqn="if lineDrawn pixelLineWidth 0"/> <v:f eqn="sum @0 1 0"/> <v:f eqn="sum 0 0 @1"/> <v:f eqn="prod @2 1 2"/> <v:f eqn="prod @3 21600 pixelWidth"/> <v:f eqn="prod @3 21600 pixelHeight"/> <v:f eqn="sum @0 0 1"/> <v:f eqn="prod @6 1 2"/> <v:f eqn="prod @7 21600 pixelWidth"/> <v:f eqn="sum @8 21600 0"/> <v:f eqn="prod @7 21600 pixelHeight"/> <v:f eqn="sum @10 21600 0"/> </v:formulas> <v:path o:extrusionok="f" gradientshapeok="t" o:connecttype="rect"/> <o:lock v:ext="edit" aspectratio="t"/> </v:shapetype><v:shape id="_x0000_i1025" type="#_x0000_t75" alt="" style='width:138.6pt; height:118.8pt'> <v:imagedata src="file:///C:\DOCUME~1\TROYSC~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\msohtml1\01\cli p_image001.jpg" o:href="http://www.007exhibition.freeuk.com/assets/images/Tonyres.jpg"/> </v:shape><![endif]--><!--[if !vml]-->http://www.007exhibition.freeuk.com/assets/images/Tonyres.jpg<!--[endif]-->

"In addition, "From <st1>Eastbourne</st1>...The Movie" includes an interview with local resident Anthony Chamberlaine Brothers. In 1962 Tony worked on the set of 'Dr. No' as the stand-in for Sean Connery. During the filming of his interview, Tony kept the Focus Video crew entertained with his impersonations of Bond director Terence Young. He also gave an insight into his time at Pinewood and of working for the film's producers, Harry Saltzman & 'Cubby' Broccoli. Tony's tale of the difficulties of filming with 100 spider crabs makes for hilarious viewing!"

----------------------------------------------------------------

Stellios Chiotis:

"Greek Band Leader" - (Do You Take This Man?)

Status: Mystery. I could hardly find anything on him except to certify that he is a real musician. Beyond that, nothing.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Jan Holden:

"Lady Customer" - (A Bliss Girl)

Status: Deceased. She was born in 1931 and died in 2005. In this case it would be easier to leave a link to her mini biography on IMDB. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0390205/bio

----------------------------------------------------------------

Michael Halsey:

"Fairy Prince" - (Happy Returns)

Status: Living??? I could find no birth or death date for him. However, his last entry on IMDB was in 2003 as "Rutherford Sirk" in two episodes of the TV series, Angel.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Season 7 Extra Cast

----------------------------------------------------------------

Harold Berens:

"Customer" - (The Junior)

Status: Deceased. He was born in 1903 and died in 1995. According to some sources, he is rumored to have appeared in as many as 200 different roles in his career.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Morris Barry:

"Customer" - (The Junior)

Status: Deceased. He was born in 1918 and died in 2000. I found the following on him.

"He made his name as a producer and director on such notable productions as Angels, Compact and Z-Cars; but his most impressive credit was perhaps as producer of the highly popular dramatization of Poldark by Winston Graham.

Morris Barry had a strong connection with Doctor Who as well. He directed three stories during the Patrick Troughton years: The Moonbase (1966), The Tomb of the Cybermen (1967) and The Dominators (1968). He also appeared as an actor in the Doctor Who story "The Creature from the Pit" in 1979, playing the scientist "Tollund"."

----------------------------------------------------------------

Bernard Stone / Bernhard Stone:

"Customer" - (The Junior)

Status: Living??? I couldn't find a birth or death date for him. However, I did find references to a documentary he may have directed in 2006 called Two Bells / Two Cities with Susan Sarandon in it. He was also the director of a movie from 1982 called Roses in December. Other than that, he acted in some roles between 1964 and 1984 and was the film editor of a 1988 TV movie called Hothouse.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Amanda Barrie:

"Ballet Mistress" - (Strong Stuff, This Insurance)

Status: Living. She was born in 1935. She has an interesting mini biography, check it out here. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0057360/bio

----------------------------------------------------------------

Imogen Bickford-Smith:

"Doctor" - (Strong Stuff, This Insurance)

Status: Living. She was born in 1952. The last entry for her on IMDB was as a "stenographer" in the 1988 movie A Fish Called Wanda. She had a couple of roles between 1977 and 1988, but appears to have dropped off the radar since then.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Geraldine Gardner / Trudi Van Doorne:

"The Dressing Gown" - (Strong Stuff This Insurance)

Status: Deceased. She was born in 1950 and died in 1987. She had more than 20 roles between 1968 and 1986. Her ending seems rather sad. According to a forum that I read...

Geraldine had recently married and unexpectedly gave birth to twins. While suffering from post natal depression, which wasn't known yet about by doctors of the time, she walked out into the sea near where she lived during the UK winter. Then calmly laid down on the beach, clothes stacked neatly beside her, and literally froze to death (hypothermia).

----------------------------------------------------------------

Avril Angers:

"Edna Comlozi" - (Mrs. Slocombe, Senior Person)

Status: Deceased. She was born in 1918 and died in 2005. She had numerous roles between 1949 and 1997.

IMDB states, "Avril Anger's was one of Britain's finest comedy actresses. Once dubbed Britain's answer to Lucille Ball she was a great exponent of revue, musicals, cabaret and TV and film comedy."

----------------------------------------------------------------

Derrie Powell:

"Lady Customer" - (Mrs. Slocombe, Senior Person)

Status: Mystery. There are only two entries on IMDB for her and basically the same thing everywhere else her name is mentioned. Her role on AYBS? in 1979 and the part of "2nd Party Guest" in the 1980 movie, Silver Dream Racer.

If Derrie is the elderly female customer at the very beginning of this episode, then in all likelihood, she is now probably deceased.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Jackie Pallo:

"Mr. Franco" - (The Hero)

Status: Deceased. He was born in 1926 and died in 2006. He didn't have very many acting roles, but his last role, interestingly, was the one he had on AYBS?

----------------------------------------------------------------

Mohammad Shamsi:

"Mohammad" - (Anything You Can Do)

Status: Living. He was born in 1930. He had over 15 roles between 1965 and 1981. His last role seems to have been as "Mardian" in the 1981 TV movie, Antony and Cleopatra.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Sue Bishop:

"Shop Girl" - (Anything You Can Do / various other episodes)

Status: Living. My guess is that she is alive. As for the part she played, IMDB stated that she was a "Lift girl", which I KNOW is wrong. She had various roles between 1968 and 1982. Her last entry on IMDB was that of "Mrs. Keppel" on the 1982 TV mini-series, Nancy Astor.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Belinda Lee:

"Lift Girl" - (Anything You Can Do)

Status: Mystery. I can't find out anything about her. No birth or death date is available and she only had three roles. Her last not even being clarified in the "Just Act Natural" TV episode of Wyatt's Watchdogs in 1988. From there she vanishes.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Renu Setna:

"Mr. Patel" - (The Agent)

Status: Living. In his career ranging from 1964 to the present, he has had more than 70 roles and is still acting.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Peggy Ann Clifford:

"Mrs. Maxwell" - (The Agent)

Status: Unknown. IMDB says she was born in 1921 and died in 1984. However there are more entries after her death, some for 1985 and some for 1993. Anyone else know anything?

----------------------------------------------------------------

Marella Oppenheim:

"Amanda" - (The Agent)

Status: Living. She was born in 1960. She appears to have had her start on AYBS? and her latest role was that of "Prevoditeljica" in the 2006 movie Put lubenica / a.k.a. The Melon Route.

----------------------------------------------------------------

That's it for now. Season 8 to come later.

Stellios Chiotis appears to have been a songwriter, from what i've read, and I believe he appeared as himself in another TV show in the UK in the early 1990s. Thanks for all the information. It's interesting to find out about actors I've seen so many times over, even though the roles they played were small.

Our own Adam here on the board got an autograph from Sue a few years back. I don't know why they have her listed as a lift girl myself. She was in most of the eppys in the whole run of the show as a Ladies counter assistant.

Pat Keen:

"The Mohair Jumper" - (A Personal Problem)

Status: Living. She has had more than 50 roles according to IMDB. Wikipedia had the following to say.

"Pat Keen is a retired British actress whose career on stage, television and film ran from the 1950s to the 2000s. She is best known for playing strident, bossy middle-aged women in British comedy throughout the 1970s and 1980s, such as the character 'Virginia' in the Fawlty Towers episode "The Anniversary", and an anxious mother in Clockwise.

She currently resides in Ipswich."

----------------------------------------------------------------

Dawn Perllman:

"Miss Hepburn" - (Front Page Story)

Status: Living??? I can find no birth or death date. Based on her looks in the episode, she couldn't have been all that old at the time. However, her IMDB entries stop in 1991 with her role as a "Gatecrasher" in the episode "New Year Special: Forward to the Past" of the TV show, The Return of Shelley.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Denise Distel:

"Miss Coleman" - (Front Page Story)

Status: Living??? I can find no birth or death date. She was young in her role on the show. She only had three roles according to IMDB. Her last role was that which she had on AYBS? There is no other info available on her.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Martin Cochrane:

"Fireman" - (Sit Out)

Status: Living. He was born in 1946. He is the brother of Michael Cochrane. He had nearly 40 roles during his career. His last role was in 1997 as "Clive Thompson" in the episode "Leaving Home" of the TV show, Heartbeat.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Nicholas McArdle:

"Head Waiter" - (Closed Circuit)

Status: Living??? I couldn't find a birth or death date. He has had more than 60 roles during his career. His last role was that of "Mr. Dale (solicitor)" in the 2000 movie, Mrs Caldicot's Cabbage War.

----------------------------------------------------------------

John Oxley:

"Lord Hirly" - (Closed Circuit)

Status: Unknown. I can't locate much of anything on him outside of IMDB. No birth or death date. His last role was an unknown one in the 1984 episode "Doctor's Orders" of the TV show, One By One.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Brenda Cowling:

"Lady Customer" - (The Erotic Dreams of Mrs. Slocombe)

Status: Living. She was born in 1935. She has had more than 100 roles during her career. Her last role was in 2005 as a "Woman" in the episode "Stuck In the Middle With You" on the TV show, According To Bex.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Bob Murphy:

"Piper" - (Roots?)

Status: Unknown. No birth or death date info available. He seems to have been a real bagpiper. However, info on him is lacking. I can find the name all over in connection to playing bagpipes on albums or tracks, but seemingly little on the person himself.

I am assuming Bob was his nickname and noticed that there are numerous results on IMDB for the name "Robert Murphy". He has an entry under "Bob Murphy" on IMDB, with six roles to his credit. The last of which was the one he played on AYBS? Perhaps there are more to be found under what may be his proper name.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Willie Budge:

"Drummer" - (Roots?)

Status: Mystery. No birth or death date info anywhere and his only role was on AYBS?. He was probably a real-life drummer and was brought on the show for the simple purpose of doing the (Roots?) episode.

----------------------------------------------------------------

The Maggie Stredder Singers:

"Themselves" - (Roots?)

Status: ????? AYBS? appears to have been their last role as "The Maggie Stredder Singers". I can't find much info on the individual people that made up the group. However, I am assuming that Maggie Stredder shared some of her singers with the Ladybirds group that she was already a member of. In that case I can add the following possible members.

The first three are the main members, the fourth was #3's replacement, and the rest are other members that made up the Ladybirds at one time or another. Maggie Stredder was the only member that remained constant over the years of the Ladybirds.

1. Maggie Stredder - Status: Living. She was born in 1936.
2. Marian Davies - Status: Deceased. Born 1940 and died 2008. IMDB does not show her death year.
3. Gloria George - Status: Unknown.
4. Penny Lister - Status: Unknown.
5. Ann Simmons - Status: Unknown.
6. Laura Lee - Status: Deceased. She was born in 1937 and died in 2007.
7. Tracy Miller - Status: Unknown.
8. Joan Baxter - Status: Unknown.
9. Kay Garner - Status: Unknown.
10. Vicki Robinson - Status: Unknown.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Vicki Michelle:

“C. B. Voice” – (Calling All Customers)

Status: Living. She has a LONG mini biography on IMDB. You can read it here. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0585053/bio

She is still acting. Her last role according to IMDB was as “Patricia Foster” in 2009 in the TV show, Emmerdale Farm. One of the roles she is best known for is as “Yvette Carte-Blanche” in ‘Allo ‘Allo!.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Status: Living. He has quite a biography as well. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001059/bio

He is known for his role as “Rubeus Hagrid” in the Harry Potter films. He is currently an active actor. I personally remember him for his role as “Valentin Dmitrovich Zukovsky” in the James Bond films Goldeneye and The World Is Not Enough.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Eiji Kusuhara:

“Mr. Kayoto” – (Monkey Business)

Status: Living. I found the following on him from the Ichiza Theatre Company website.

“He came to England in 1972 with [I]Tokyo Kid Brothers and performed at the Royal Court and Hampstead Theatre. In 1973 he joined Tsutomu Yamashita’s Red Buddha Theatre and went on tour in Europe and the USA. ----------------------------------------------------------------

John Biggerstaff:

“Fur Coat Customer” – (Monkey Business)

Status: Unknown. I can find no birth or death date for him. He is likely deceased. He had only over ten roles according to IMDB. His last role was an unknown one in the 1983 episode “The Damask Collection” of the TV show, Jemima Shore Investigates.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Lisa Anselmi:

“Miss Percival” – (Monkey Business)

Status: Living??? Nothing much seems to be known about her. I can find no birth or death date for her. She had less than ten roles according to IMDB and her last role was that of the “Communist Resistance Leader” in the 1986 episode, “The Nicked Knockwurst” of the TV show, ‘Allo ‘Allo!.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Kristopher Kum:

“Mr. Yamoto” – (Monkey Business)

----------------------------------------------------------------

Jan Ravens:

“Mrs. Thatcher (Voice)” – (Monkey Business)

Status: Living. She is still acting. Her first role seems to have been the one she played on AYBS?. Her latest acting role was that of “Janey” in the 2008 episode, “Human Error”, of the TV show, Love Soup. Her latest appearance was as herself on the 2010 episode, “Gifts” of the TV show, QI.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Peter Cleall:

“Mr. Winston” – (Lost & Found)

Status: Living. He no longer appears to be acting. His last role was a “Security Guard” in the 2000 episode, “Fifty-Fifty”, of the TV show, The Bill. IMDB has this to say:

----------------------------------------------------------------

Shirley English:

“Unknown Role” – (Lost & Found)

Status: Living. She is listed on IMDB as being in the above episode, but no role is listed. Her mini biography has this to say about her.

“Tall and blonde, Shirley English was one of those background actors that stood out more than most. She appeared in many classic British comedy films in the 70s. She appeared getting off a bus in Mutiny on the Buses (1972) and shouting at a football match in Carry on Emmannuelle (1978). Other appearances were in the classic sitcoms "Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em" (1973) and "Are You Being Served?" (1972). She also appeared in an episode of "Comedy Playhouse" (1971).

Her biggest role was in Carry on Girls (1973), starring alongside June Whitfield, Patricia Franklin and Patsy Rowlands as a feminist liberator. She appeared in the classic bra-burning and beauty contest sequences.

In addition to playing bit parts and extras, Shirley also worked as a double. For example to Ann Zelda in 1977.

In recent times (2000) Shirley has starred in "EastEnders" (1985) for the BBC - probably her most major acting role.”<o></o>

Well, I'm not one to talk but....
Of course you all know that Wendy, John, Mollie and most recently Trevor have all died so they are up in that Green Room in the skies laughing together as they always did.

Frank is 'still going' and a lunch was held in his honour recently when he was
accompanied by his lovely wife, Beryl.
Mike Berry is still getting work as a musician. He, Nicholas and Doremy were
featured in a programme at Christmas dedicated to the making of the show.
She WAS a Tiller Girl and whilst playing in the series had a book published in
1988 called 'Tiller's Girls'
I believe she is currently writing for radio and TV.

Here's an update on Dawn Perllman: a video interview from 2010, in which she talks about her career and her experience acting in a recent play for schools.

She still looks very cute! ;)

I don't have the info right in front of me, but I do remember some facts.

Belinda Lee - Lift Girl - left acting to become a freelance costumier

Taryn Kaye - Lift Girl - spent time as a cheerleader in NFL Europe

Pat Astley - YMG's first nurse - left acting, and is now working in a friend's furniture store in Blackpool.

Rusty Goffe -the short suitor "Erotic Dreams of Mrs Slocombe", and the Monkey in "Monkey Business" played an Umpa Lumpa in the original Willy Wonka, and was playing a hippo at a theme park.

Felix Bowness was one of the farmhands brought in to thwart Cecil G Slocombe in the G&F episode `Mr Slocombe Expected'

Stelios Chiotis -Greek Band Leader, returned to his native Cyprus, and is running a restaraunt.

Ferdi(nand) Mayne - moved to America and had a recurring role on "Cagney and Lacey" and appeared in the movie "Conan the Destroyer" as the wizard leader of the guardians of the Horn of Dagoth

Billy Burden -"Maurice Moulterd"- G&F - while it is well known that he has died, he hid his age, and it wasn't known until after his death that he was a week away from his 80th birthday. He played yokels most of his career, but he was also a skilled piano player and during shows would often make the quick change for yokel clothes to formal wear.

I've seen citations referring to Ms. Melody as the Duchess of Sligo and as the Baroness of Leyny, but I thought that she'd obtained these titles in the traditional way that a beautiful dancer or showgirl would - that is, by marrying a nobleman or two.

Apparently, though, Lady Melody bought herself these titles:

http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/how-to-buy-a-title-1321552.html

Considering that (according to the article) "baronages range from pounds 60,000 to pounds 100,000 and earldoms cost in the region of pounds 500,000," she must have done very well for herself.

I wonder if she's single? ;)
