I'm just watching the Planting Taters scene in the "Petrified Pussy" episode.

Why were they planting potatos? Wouldn't Moulterd do that?:?

--Hold everything! Jessica's wearing a low-cut frock, holding a whip while driving the carriage!---

OK I'm back. Only Rumbold would have come up with such an impractical way of planting potatos! The scene doesn't really add anything to an otherwise fine episode. I can't think of a single reason why they had that scene. Anyone else got a clue?

--Ha! "Take a cat from the wall, bad luck will befall!
Find it in a niche, leave it where it is!"
"When pulling the chain, watch out for the brain!" :D--

They're all supposed to help out on the farm is all I can think of.
I think the scene is hilarious when Brahms is tossing the potatoes to Humphries then Humphries switches places with Rumbold. :emotlol:

 Joe & Wibby,

Back in the day {I'm to young but, Sonosun will remember :emotlol:} everyone, help plant & harvest the crops.

Also everyone, would help on canning and storing the crops too.

:lucas01:

Ps ...... It's sort of the same way that people would make pierogis. {Wibby}

The whole family would make them until they had enough for the winter.

Mavis makes the comment that her dad threw his back out so they (the staff) had to help plant the potatoes. ;)

I found it strange but sort of amusing when Mr. Rumbold is wearing a SUIT when planting taters. Reminds me of that TV Show called...Green Acres..

Through out the run of the show the whole of the staff is completely over dressed for a barnyard location.

Very True Greg...not the sort of clothing that farmers wear for the daily chore activities that go on around a FARM...

also they were overdressed for dinner as well, but that was mr. rumbold's fault for not telling them they would be eating in.

i also loved the look on mr. humphries face when he was being scolded but again that was not his fault all that smoke was blocking his vision.

The overdressed issue is certainly interesting. I always noticed Mr Humphries wearing pale trousers to walk in the mud and that sort of thing... guess he had an extensive wardrobe! :)

That's one of those faces you go "Awww" to.

Well the women wearing high heels in the barnyard was a little ridiculous.

:slochead:"True" of course they didn't expect to go walking around mudd and dirt.

Capt. Peacock and Miss Lovelock were in the house together, ostensibly getting a bedroom ready for Miss Brahams to occupy, and "decorating" the walls with old pictures from the attic, while the rest of the bunch were in the field. Miss Lovelock's story of a tryst having taken place in the room causes Capt. Peacock's imagination to go wild, substitutiing himself and Miss Lovelock as the two participants sneaking around to be together.

I always wondered what it was Capt. Peacock did to make Rumbold go to the field instead of having to go himself, because Peacock was always making snide remarks about Rumbold's laziness. It was Peacock's attempt to drive a nail into a wall for hanging one of the old portaits which exposes the "poor pussy." Hilarious episode, especially the part where Miss Brahams sings about planting potatoes which have been "beneath my bottom!"

Maybe it's because Peacock mucked it up when he was chosen by Mr. Rumbold to MOW the grounds and he and his motorized Mower wind up on the Highway where Mr. Croft in his car said..."No need to trim the hedges! The cows do that." (or words to that effect)...

Hi Catherine! How are you?

It was probably Rumbold's ego that had him in the fields. Probably thought that they couldn't do it without overseeing everything.

Well the women wearing high heels in the barnyard was a little ridiculous.

It would make it easier for planting though: use the heel to make a little hole, then drop the spud in :)

I don't think the spikes on their shoes were big enough to make a hole for potatoes.

Hi Catherine! How are you?

That was Jeremy Lloyd driving the car saying no need to mow the verges the Council do that. :D

Keep in mind that living at the Manor was a spur of the moment decision. Living in London as they all had done, they had little need for the kind of clothes suitible for farming. And as yet they didn't have the money to buy new threads.

As for Rumbold being there, he had this new fangled idea on how to plant taters, so naturally he would be there to make sure the rest of them didn't muck it up.
