I think many of our fave scenes take place in the canteen!

Whether it's Mrs. Yardswick *banging* plates down with a fury....or Mr. Grainger drinking his soup with a straw....or aiming spaghetti bolognese into his "little red lake"... these moments are quite precious to us fans!

What's your favorite "lunchtime" etc. canteen memory?

My favorite canteen moment was from "Strong Stuff This Insurance" when the men are doing pushups on the floor to prepare for their physical.

How about when Mrs. SLocombe mistakenly drinks the fizzy coffee intended for Mr. Grainger? I also love the Christmas cracker disguises.

I remember reading in the newspaper about U S Congressmen spending Thousands of dollars on junkets. I hope they weren't spilling them.

It was her cup of coffee. She ended up stirring it with "the fizzy pen."

Dazz, I'll keep that in mind if we ever in a canteen together and I say something to tick you off(accidentally of course)....I'll make sure junket isn't on the menu first

The Canteen is my favorite part of the store. The way it changes every Season and even sometimes within a Season. No wonder the Staff never got a rise with all the profit going into redecorating !!!

Ever try to read the posters on the wall in the canteen? I think there is one
about drinking on the job and another about safety but couldn't tell you where or when they appear....This is a job for a DVD player with freeze-frame and zoom.

Don't worry Frank, I would never do that to you. I would use Jello instead, lol. But yes, the freezing and zooming helps out a lot!

We had a discussion over on The Old Board about this, I think. David or Greg may remember what is was about. I seem to remember a screen cap, too. :?

OMG! OMG! OMG!

For a year now I've been wanting to tell you guys about something I saw in the canteen! But ever since I returned I forgot to tell you! I can't think of the episode off hand (it has something to do with Mrs.Slocombe, like "Goodbye Mrs.Slocombe" or "Fifty Years On") but I'll find the episode later. Anyways, on the wall where Mr.Spooner usually sits by at the end of the table, there is a poster with some people and one of them looks like old Rumbold. I'm serious! I will go look for the episode now and report back promptly!

Okay, the episode was "Fifty Years On".
For those of you with dvd's, the moment was around 8:25 into the episode.
They are in the canteen right after Mrs.Slocombe leaves so they can talk. Miss.Brahms says "In 3 days time, it's her birthday." If you look above Mr.Lucas' head (you may need to zoom out), there is a poster that says "What it is like to be a blood donor" or something like that. There are like 6 people on the poster. Look at the bottom, middle one and it looks like Rumbold. It's not very clear, but there is a possibility that he could be a blood donor. There was a lady on the poster who looked like one of the lift girls if I'm not mistaken.

Very hard to say, at first I was going to say no, but after a few times, I'm at a definite "don't know"!

Way cool find though Dazz!

If they took a special picture to make a poster for the canteen, I'd be surprised. There were budget restrictions. That aside, I am sure they never expected the show to be so popular about 30 years later and expected fans to notice what's on the canteen walls. I'll look at the scene tomorrow, but my guess is that a candid (cast?) pic with Nicholas Smith, et. al. was taken and they slapped it onto some poster board and made a blood drive poster to use to spruce up the canteen walls. Here's where Greg could work his magic and blow the thing up so we could really see it.

Look at the poster above Lucas's head from eppy13 Coffee Morning. We see the "Toe Poster" behind Lucas which would be the left side of the canteen. Yet in the following picture, which is taken from eppy 14 Up Captain Peacock , the poster is NOW at the back of the canteen by the cash register.

My favorite's always been in "The Hero" when they're all joking on Peacock's boil, even Goldberg, who starts off trying to keep them quiet! The rest of the episode is pretty dumb, but that one scene, and the one after it in Rumbold's office, make up for it.

I'm trying to rememer Mr. Spooner's comments regarding Mrs. Slocombe reading the paper in "Is It Catching?"

"Mrs. Slocombe could open the times, sit on it, and read two pages at once!"

Great canteen moment.....

Mr. H. is all giddy and fem when he says "Come on! Let's go look at the room." And he grabs a frosted fairycake (cupcake) and he flounces out. It's so cute.

Wendy just can't hold it together in Father Christmas Affair and she's giggling practically through all her lines. After all...she's looking straight on at Arthur Brough...who would purposely make his eating scenes as graphic as possible. I think Trevor was expecting to hear "CUT!!" at any second!

One of my favorites moments is when Mr. Humphries has gone next door to the bar and had a few too many. I can't remember the episode name. I think it's the one that he and his mother have had a fight. It's nice to see him out of character.
