I was watching this episode last night and noticed that it fades to black rather abruptly a few times in the final third of the program. It also runs only 27 minutes which seems about 2 minutes short of the normal running time. Does anybody know if this episode has been edited or if there was a problem with the master videotape? I don't recall reading anything about it when I bought the set some time ago.

I've always wondered about this too, especially between the scene with Young Mr. Grace and the segment with the staff working to music--something seems to have been cut out.

I haven't noticed the fading, but I have always thought the little "montage" to the music on the radio was a bit werird for this show. I like it, though, but it seems a bit...I don't know, weird, hehe

The only way you'll really know is to ask the source of your program. If you watched on DVD I don't know what to tell you.

Seen the eppy a 1,000 times, noticed the fade out but never really thought too much of it. Never heard of anything being cut out.

I was watching on the original dvd as I bought the entire series boxed set a few years ago. It just struck me as odd. Thanks for the input though and I'm glad a few others noticed it as well.

The episode also starts off kinda weird, where it shows the store floor and then cuts right to the canteen. What with the other cuts mentioned above, I've always thought this was sort of an odd episode in terms of flow... although it's one of the funniest at times!

I like the conspiracy... a missing scene that they had to delete and fill the time with that impromptu musical montage that didn't quite fill the gap! There doesn't to be a gap in the storyline though.
I never noticed the time difference or the fade outs, but I always wondered about the opening credits of the empty sales floor, then the cut right to the canteen. I'm sure they started some other episodes right from the canteen, didn't they?

they started the junior from the canteen when they were saying 'get lost' to mr tebbs :)
ive also seen titles which start on the shop floor but show the gang walking off it to the right, to rumbolds office.

Doesn't Fire Practice start off with them off the floor? In Rumbold's office I think. Or was it Happy Returns?

I meant to ask sooner what scene are you trying to say is Lost? If it's lost how would you know about it and why hasn't anyone else brought it up? Very many people taped all of the episodes so why is it lost?

AFAIK no episodes on DVD have been edited. If you saw it on PBS, that's another story...
I always thought that part seemed weird too. I'll have to rewatch it.

I think they just had a few too many gin and tonics while they edited this episode together. ...only they had several bottles of tonic left over.

...sometimes if on the original mastertape,or film reel if a certain piece of film is in a bad way then the company that are re-distributing the said programme will re-edit a certain episode or episodes,....this is probably the case,....or it could be contratural reason......it is 25 years since aybs stopped and the archive resources back then werent as good as they are today.:|
