A group in Southampton has proposed a local currency, the "Southampton pound," which could only be used in participating businesses in that city, and whose notes would feature local heroes.
Proposed to appear on the SHP 20 note is none other than Benny Hill, who was born there and continued to live there for many years after he became an international TV star.

Given how much money The Benny Hill Show has brought into the UK, I think Benny should be on one of the Bank of England's notes - perhaps with special printing, so that he'd smile whenever one of his notes was slipped into a lap-dancer's knickers. ;)

That's sweet! :) Your idea with the special printing is hilarious and I think he would get a kick of of that feature! LOL

Thank you, Marlies - but I actually stole that idea from Benny himself. In one sketch, he was the referee of an all-girls soccer match. At the beginning of the match, he prepares to flip the coin, and we see the "heads" side of the coin - it's a frontal portrait of a man's face, with a serious expression.
He tosses the coin, and it goes down the front of a player's low-cut blouse. She "shakes it about a bit" (as Mr. Lucas would say) so the coin goes down her blouse, down the front of her shorts, out one leg and falls on the ground. Benny picks it up, and the portrait on the coin now has a big smile! :D

Thanks for the link Erik. As a huge Benny Hill fan myself I might have to try and get ahold of one of those bills (if they ever come out). Won't do me any good over here in the states but will be a nice collectable.

I'm also a big fan of Benny's and would love to see this. It would be a great tribute to a comedy genius.

To be real honest, I'm not a big fan of Benny Hill :duck:.. but I think this is a neat idea. :D

Snap. I never liked him either. For all the comedy I watched as a kid this was one guy who made me cringe.

I think Benny is like most other British comedy. You either love it or dislike it. There is not much middle ground when it comes to Britcoms. Me, I love just about all of them.
