It seems like they switched Mr Lucas role to Miss Brahms when interacting with Mr Humphries. In this show, he makes all those little side remarks to her and they make a few jokes and giggles quite a few times. Like they're BFF or something :D It's actually quite cute

Anyone else that has noticed this??

I also own the complete series on dvd and have been repeat viewing it of late but I really can't watch some of the episodes after Mr. Lucas left the show. Some are quite good but some are really bad. It does seem though as Miss Brahms role changed somewhat when she did interact with Mr. Humphries. Some evidence of this is in "Cold Store" when she helps out on the menswear counter and is asking about Jocky Shorts and where to put handkerchiefs. She seems much more intelligent in her conflabs with Mrs. Slocombe.

Edit: Oops I realised this was in the Grace & Favour board. I own that complete series as well though and actually enjoy some aspects of it more than AYBS. I like the continuation of the plot over several episodes and it is a hoot seeingMr. Moulterd chasing Mrs. Slocombe (aka Rachel Yiddel) around the grounds.

I think what they did with Miss Brahms in this show was a good idea as it gave Wendy more to do. Plus, she got a lot more of the great lines.

Well at the time Wendy was the biggest star on the show so I'd hope they give her more than just a few lines.

References were made on the show to Mrs Slocombe and Mr Humphries being on the telephone during some TV show or other and they knew quite intimate details of each others lives. It wouldn't be out of place for Miss Brahms and Mr Humphries to be close as well. Considering the distance between Gent's and Ladies it's remarkable they were able to coverse at all.

In their earlier days when they were working at Grace Brothers. :)

Really?? Must say I never noticed that. I know Mr Humphries and Mr Lucas knew some of each others lifes outside of the store, but I didn't notice that with Miss Brahms and Mr Humphries

I would say that Miss Brahms' character in Grace and Favour had matured and become far more worldly that she was during the AYBS? years. I think Mr. Humphries felt more comfortable gossiping with her in G&F for that reason. During AYBS? I think he feared she wouldn't understand his "point of view." Remember in AYBS? how shocked he was in the Opera box! By the time of G&F he wasn't afraid what her reaction might be.

As cool as it was to see the core of the original cast in G&F, most of them sort of drifted away from their normal character roles we were accustomed to in the AYBS? days. So it took me awhile for the newer setting to grow on me. I never even knew about "AYBS?....again" until about a year ago when PBS continued the series where the old one left off. I might have to hunt down the DVD's for both shows.
Anyway, everyone evolved in their own way, but it was refreshing to see Humphries and Peacock staying so true to their characters.

You probably did notice. It's mentioned a few times, that Mrs Slocombe and Mr Humphries always called each other when Coronation Street was finished, so they could discuss what had happened.

"Lost and Found", Humphries makes a reference about "saving on the calls" between him and Slocombe when they would discuss "Coronation Street".

I also watched (again) the Grace & Favour episodes and I bet I saw something you all may have not noticed! I saw a scene (where Mavis is climbing over the sheep fence) where Mavis is wearing white, cotton underwear! (mind you, I'm NOT a perv but I do have eyes for details!) :) I apologize if I offended anybody by saying this, especially the Ladies on here.

I bought the DVD a few days ago and have re-watched them again, and I adore what they did with Miss Brahms, they gave her more than they ever did in AYBS. But I do agree with the OP, they seem to have fused a bit of the Mr Lucas cheekiness and snide asides to her, which works great for her character development.

I know what you mean. However, it does actually work with Miss Brahms because she has made a few cheeky remarks in her time in AYBS? whereas it didn't with Mr Spooner.

I noticed they had a closer relationship, such as the scene in the grounds chappel. Now I'm going to have to rewatch the episodes to catch the others...

I will re-watch on YouTube seeing as they are not released here in the UK.

That's an interesting point: was the Lucas character left out because he was so much younger that in theory he would not be retired, yet?

That doesn't make sense, come to think of it, because from what I recall he and Miss Brahms were close in age, and she's retired in AYBS - Again.

BTW, FYI, in Europe it's the same series, called "Grace & Favour" because the idea of the elderly young Mr. Grace providing for his employees in their declining retired years comes from that concept, an old one from old England, actually.

I know because an Aussie email pen pal born in the UK told me so.

"Grace and Favour" is the orginal title of the show later changed to "AYBS? Again" for the American market. I myself prefer "Grace and Favour". :D

For what it's worth, I remember John Inman stating he liked "AYBS Again" for a title.

I think Nicholas Smith also made that remark.
