Here is something I noticed and have always wondered about...Occasionally, Mrs. Slocombe seems to have trouble pronouncing certain words. I first noticed it in "It Pays To Advertise". As the gang is looking at the mannequin made in Mrs. Slocombe's image - she says I refuse to be displayed with a size 50 bust, my vital statistics is 38. The word statistics is somewhat slurred. A few minutes later she has trouble saying the word character . It is almost as if she had just been fitted with dentures and hadn't gotten use to them yet. Has anyone else noticed this? If not, check it out and see what you think.

I've noticed the words but never thought it to be dentures. Slocombe mispronounces word when she's trying to be upper crusty but doesn't carry it off too well.

I remember Mollie Sugden talking about how they all used to get half trashed in between scenes... maybe it's related to that?

I noticed it when they all sang steppin out. Probably cause my mother in law has dentures and it just looked like her top lip was struggling to cover her upper set of teeth.

I've always noticed her lisping when she's playing drunk, and she does tend to get her polysyllabic words wrong, but other than that I've never noticed anything odd.

I suppose one way to find out for sure is to write her and ask...but that's something I'd dare not do ;)
I'm going to agree with the getting half-trashed and upper-crusty pronounciation explanations.
