This is being reported on various websites, very sad news, indeed:
"VETERAN actor Reg Evans and his partner are believed to have died while trying to defend their small farm at St Andrews from the fire that destroyed their land.
Friends of the actor, remembered for his roles in Mad Max and Blue Heelers, were yesterday desperately trying to contact the 80-year-old but without success.
Evans' agents, Creative Representation, said they held grave fears for the actor, who is believed to have told friends he was planning to stay on to defend his property.
"We have messages out to everyone we can think of and clearly we would love to hear he's OK but things suggest otherwise," senior agent Jacinta Waterf said.
"We haven't heard from his partner either.
"Obviously we are very concerned for someone that age living in St Andrews that we can't make contact.
"Hopefully we hear he's having a beer down at someone's place but you know (that's unlikely)."
Ms Waterf said Evans, despite being about to turn 81, was still heavily active in the arts, completing a feature role recently with Paul Hogan for the film Charlie & Boots. "He was heavily involved in the local theatre and arts life up there and loved the area," she said.
"He was always being asked about and checked on (for commercial projects) but he was busy there. He was very much still acting."
Veteran actor Bud Tingwell said he was shocked by Evans' presumed death.
"Reg was a lovely guy, he was such a good bloke," he said. "I was still getting over the shock of Brian Naylor, whom I also knew."
Tingwell said the Welsh-born Evans had a lovely sense of humour and was a respected actor.
Ms Waterf said Mr Evans had lived on a small farm off Bald Spur Rd for decades."

Of course, we all know him as Mr. Cocker, from Are You Being Served Down Under?
