Has anyone seen Open All Hours? I believe that is what the show was called. :? It's about a shop keeper and his nephew.
Yes I have the series here.
It's terribly funny, I would heartily recommend it.
The star is Ronnie Barker as Arkwright, who's a very very mean (mean as in tight with money) shopkeeper with a stutter. His nephew Granville (played by David Jason)
is treated like his slave and wants to break out into a more exciting life. The third main character is a nurse called Gladys Emanuel who Arkwright hopes to marry.
Brilliant writing, well worth a look.
I came across it last year when I was going through a Ronnie barker obsession. Like Dean said, I would recommend it. I think my favourite episode would be the first episode of season three "An Errand Boy By The Ear" purey because the writing was at it's best. Although, every episode was well writen.

I used to watch it until my PBS station dropped it. I enjoyed it very much...so much so I'll have to go look and see if it's out on DVD yet.

An absolute must. Another classic Brit com. Lynda Barron who played Nurse Gladys is currently in Eastenders. She has not changed a bit.

Fantastic show. I watched it for years. It was developed from one of five different pilot episodes that Ronnie Barker did to test which ones would be best recieved. The other was Porridge.

Porridge, another classic. I have both Porridge and Open All Hours all on dvd an never tire of watching them.
Comedy is not the same now as it was then.

Arkwright's ideas of showering Nurse Gladys with compliments and gifts were great. A box of out of date bashed chocolates and a compliment like, lets get married before we both have a mustache alway had me in fits.
This is my current favorite. It runs twice back-to-back Saturdays at 11pm on WTVI. Especially amusing to me is the thing about Granville supposedly being half Hungarian, since I too am. Did I see it here or elsewhere the YouTube video of the old shop being offered for sale last fall?
"F-f-f-f-etch your Sh-Sh-Sh-ShamWow!" ---hmm, What a timeless comedy!

There's N-N-N-N-urse Gladys Emanuel. I just walk accros the street. Ah, nurse G-G-G-G-ladys Emanuel. Would you like something hot in your bed? A hot sh-sh-sh-sh-opkeeper?
Great show.

I agree...I so miss it. I don't know if my PBS station will re-air it though, it's been a few years.

Ronnie Barker was one of the best. Such a pity he's no longer with us.

:D He was brilliant, a fantastic actor who created so many wonderful characters. Arkwright was wonderfully funny!
